lizbeanerxo asked: HI! My makeup looks pretty in normal lighting and then when i go outside it looks really cakey, is it supposed to do that?

Hi babe!

You’re probably not applying makeup in the best of lighting and/or not doing makeup close enough to a mirror. Keep in mind though direct sunlight is never all that flattering on makeup so on really sunny days i’d suggest going for something more light weight like a BB Cream or Tinted Moisturizer :)

When applying makeup you want to use natural lighting. day light or near a bright light. If the lighting is too dim when applying makeup you’re not really seeing an accurate representation of how your makeup looks. For example. in dim lighting you’ll apply blush and think it looks good but then when stepping out in natural lighting you’ll see you’ve applied way too much. So you could be applying more makeup than you need and/or intended because it looks okay in dim lighting.

You also don’t want to be too far away from a mirror when applying makeup. Same problem as applying makeup in poor lighting, if you’re applying makeup too far away from a mirror you’re not really seeing what you’re doing resulting in applying too much makeup and looking cakey. You can get makeup/cosmetic mirrors for really cheap at places like Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc. Some can even be mounted to the wall or have built in lights to adjust in the lighting you’re in. If you apply makeup in a room without good natural light you might want to invest in a makeup mirror that has pre fit light settings like day time, night time, etc.
