electricswimmer asked: Hi Michelle, I love your blog and was wondering if you can give me any tips on wedding makeup. I am getting married at the end of this year outdoors in a hot country. I have quite oily, acne prone skin, but I find mattifying makeup can by a little dulling/drying and I want my skin to look luminous on my wedding day. I equally want my make up to last the whole day! I am going for a vintagey/boho look, so tips on how to achieve that would be gratefully received. Thank you :-)

First off, congrats! And I totally know what you mean! As an oily skin gal I “should” be wearing mattifying foundations but I just like that glow! I normally only wear more long wearing foundations if I really need to.

A few ways to get a glowing, luminous complexion by still using a long wearing foundation. You can use one or all of these tips!

Illuminating Primer. An illuminating primer under a more matte foundation will help you look like you’re “glowing from within”. It’s not super dewy or radiant it just give a slight glow to the skin. Try primers like Loreal Magic Lumi Primer, Tarte Brightening Primer.

Highlighting The Skin. Adding some shimmer and glow back to the skin is a great way to fix a more dull foundation. This can be done with cream, liquid or powder highlighters. Becca makes a fabulous powder highlight! You apply the highlight on the cheek bones, on your brow bone, on the bridge of the nose, temples and on the cupids bow. But you can highlight where ever you want a glow!

Mixing Liquid Illuminator. Mixing a liquid illuminator with your foundation will make the foundation more radiant and glowing. The formula of the foundation will still be the same, long wearing, but the finish won’t be as matte. You can use a liquid illuminator like Revlon Photoready Skin Lights, Loreal Magic Lumi, Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer, Stila All Over Shimmer Liquid, etc.

Good luck! I know you’ll look beautiful on your wedding day :)
