Q:So, I've been wondering for a while now, but you still haven't answered it. Why do you hate Baby the Stars Shine Bright so much? It's one of my favorite stores, tbh. I mean, it's even got good shirring to actually fit people like us. So what's the deal??
Oh. I didn’t know people still wanted to know about this. Well, basically, when I went to San Francisco, I went to both Angelic Pretty and Baby the Stars Shine Bright. My experience at AP was AMAZING to say the least. The girls were helpful, sweet, kind, and actually found me a dress that fit! (My first one actually, though it’s been sold now since it was too short for me, but I was dead set on my first dress being real AP…) Things changed however once I went to Baby. The girls there were. Nothing of the girls at AP. Moreover, they were unkind. They glared at me and my mother the entire time (the phrase “if looks could kill” comes to mind). I asked them if they had anything that would fit me, and they were very unpleasant in answering, basically telling me “fat” people unwelcome in their fashion and I should try “something in the mall like Torrid”. Now, if they had been polite at least, I wouldn’t have minded at all. I’m fairly used to people telling me that their store doesn’t carry my size (as most plus sized people are), but the way they said it really upset me. One of them was particularly worse than the other I recall, and that other would have been actually pleasant in better circumstances I think. Still, I felt highly discriminated against. Their level of hostility and their rudeness to my mother really upset me. I did buy a purse, but I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible and back to AP, where the girls were practically the Angels the name implies. Now, this isn’t an isolated incident, though it does seem isolated to the San Francisco store. I’ve heard many stories of girls, who were on the heavier side or simply weren’t wearing lolita that day (because honestly, walking around San Francisco all day in a petticoat and heels? As much as I love both, no thank you.) that received similar treatment. Since they all happen at the same store, I’m now inclined to think it was the same employee. And if it were, then I think it’s rather juvenile to continue to hold a grudge. I’m over it. I have been for quite a while now. I was upset at first since that was the worst I have ever been treated in any store, but to be honest, the actions of one employee shouldn’t be held against the entire company. Sorry for the very long post, but I do hope it answers your question.
