We premiered a new 30-minute documentary tonight called “The Distortion of Sound,” produced by Harman, hosted by the Grammy Museum, and featuring music makers like Quincy Jones, Slash, Snoop Dogg, Hans Zimmer, and Steve Aoki. Did you know that virtually all the music we listen to today, from mp3s to streaming services like YouTube and Spotify, are compressed, degraded audio that sounds very little like the song the band heard when they were recording it? To use an analogy: most people know there’s a big difference between a low quality photo and a high quality photo on their smartphone; the music we’re listening to is actually like the low quality photo, with information missing and details disfigured. Check out DistortionOfSound.com to watch.
