Sign up for Crafting Type Portland! March 16-17-18
(You can sign up straight away if you want to.)
We are so happy that this workshop has come together, and its all thanks to legendary type designer, and Portland local, Thomas Phinney.
We’re excited about what unique insights Thomas is going to bring to our participants since he has been working with a type newbie intern on his Kickstarter font project and so we’re sure he’ll have great things to say about your first steps in type, too.

Here’s Thomas’ bio:
Thomas is an American/Canadian type designer and typographer. He has been “Guru of Fonts & Typography” for Extensis and their WebINK web font service since 2009, and also does independent consulting and type design. His particular interests include multilingual type design, the business of type, invalidating forged documents through type, font technology, and maximizing font quality.
Thomas’ first released typeface, Hypatia Sans, is an Adobe Original with over 3,000 glyphs in each style that covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic. Thomas is currently working on a new typeface, Cristoforo, with similarly extensive coverage.
After graduating from the Rochester (NY) Institute of Technology with an MS in Printing, specializing in design and typography, Thomas created a class in font production. He shortly went to work at Adobe (1997-2008, lastly as product manager for Fonts and Typography), when he also acquired an MBA from UC Berkeley. He currently lives in Portland, Oregon.
The 3-day workshop in Portland runs over a weekend so its convenient to attend, and tickets start at $300 for students, $400 for association members (since we’re all about growing the typography community) and $500 for professionals.
