Jeremy Mikush, Queer Music Lessons: On the Joys of Queer Baroque Listening, 1640-1740: An evening of music and conversation, Pop-Up NYC 2012, 7pm, Thursday, August 21, The Leslie + Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, Free
Using musical instruments and facilitating the voices of those in the audience, “Queer Music Lessons” is an interactive performance aimed at highlighting the homoeroticism in the works of Monteverdi, Corelli and Handel. To help establish mood, the evening will include erotic images from the 1600s.
A star of the inaugural Pop Up Museum, Mikush will help audience members discover the queerness of Baroque, while also empowering them to sense the music itself as a sexual metaphor. How can music from the time inform seductions, positions and even orgasms?
