as an artist that hates the like/reblog ratio on tumblr when it comes to art i promise you, on my life, that when people like your art they are not doing it out of a place of genuine malice. i have no idea what would make you decide that

“when people like and don’t reblog it’s like they’re saying ‘fuck you’” no. they probably just like the drawing but don’t know what it is or don’t want it on their blog. please be fucking for real

There was already fear tonight could be a bloodbath.

People who attended the protests get arrested at home. Arrest most likely means torture.

Now we have to keep going! We have to be the voices of the women of Iran!

Holy shit.

That’s pretty incredible, right? Right?

Thoughts:

  • This is an unequivocally good policy choice, though it will be small in actual impact. Most drug cases are handled through state and local courts, and Biden only has the ability to pardon those convicted in federal courts. This won't release any prisoners because there are no federal prisoners in on weed possession alone, but it will clear the criminal conviction from the records of 6,500 former federal prisoners.
  • Biden's executive order also calls on Governors to do the same, which is the right move. There have been efforts to move in this direction in Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Washington.
  • The big buried lede here is that Biden's also stated that he's making some baby steps towards re- or de-scheduling weed under the Controlled Substances Act, which could effectively legalize it nationally.
  • This is a big turnaround for Biden, who has previously been quite conservative on the weed issue despite the fact that marijuana is more popular than he is. My guess is that this is meant to pair with his new student debt policy to increase youth voting in the upcoming primaries.
  • Bernie + Warren + Cory Booker + others recently sent a letter to the White House asking Biden to issue these pardons and to fully legalize weed via rescheduling. It's a pleasant surprise to see Biden taking the advice from his left, even if it is for election season.

This is a scam. Do not give this man your money.

Water condensers are *incredibly* energy inefficient because they’re basically just dehumidifiers with a filtration system attached.

A 75 watt dehumidifier produces around 1L of water per 24 hours in ideal (80%) humidity conditions.

Under emergency conditions, it’s recommend to have 4L of water on hand per person per day. This is the bare minimum.

For a 4 person household, that’s 16 x 75 watt dehumidifiers (or 1 x 1,200 watt dehumidifier), which would need to run for 24 hours and would consume 28,000 watt hours of electricity.

The average 4 person American household consumes around 30,000 watt hours of electricity per day. This system would effectively double your home’s electric bill, just to provide the bare minimum amount of water needed to survive.

To offset this with solar panels, which are 15% efficient, at best, and provide 150 watts per square meter, and receive around 3-5 hours of direct sunlight per day (depending on cloud cover and where you live)…. You’d need somewhere between 40 to 64 square meters of panels. Per house. Just for water generation.

Which only works when it’s humid.

And sunny.

This invention is cool, but it can’t beat the laws of physics.

Also note the classic hallmarks of an invention scam: news article video with no actual news company logo on the bottom, “retired” military veteran, demanding “investment”, “donation” or some other financial contribution to his life-saving device with no information on cost, how/where it’s manufactured, or discussion about how this “life saving” invention should actually be free or open source.

Oh, man.

Before giving your money—most people on here don’t have a lot and work very hard to get the little they have—the thing to do with charitable endeavors with which you are unfamiliar is to check them in a quick search. There are sites that provide data on charities, specifically, just like there are sites that provide data on businesses, and you can start to sniff out something that smells off.

Charity Navigator has nothing on the org, which is fine. They may still be too small to get rated.

However, I managed to get a quick peek at the Guidestar profile (they require folks register with them to get data—for free but still—but first-time searches can work out), and the news is not reassuring.

Not refiling the tax exemption paperwork can happen in a small org just starting out, but three years in a row is a warning. Either it’s too poorly organized to manage basic business or it’s not in the up-and-up.

Or, it’s not actually a charity.

I want this not to be a scam. I want people to have potable water. I’d like it to be low-cost and sustainable because the people without potable water tend not to have much money and other solutions are not forthcoming from those in power. It’d also be really effing cool if a Black man was able to solve a problem that arises so often in cities with large Black populations. There’s be something poetic about that.

But the claims made seem, at the most generous, dubious to someone familiar with the technology, the basic tax forms have not been filed, and recent videos are not from recognizable third-party sources who would report with any sort of critical eye. This doesn’t pass the charity smell test.

There are so many people out there trying to scam the desperate and people who want to help the desperate.

Maybe this guy is just struggling to get a large endeavor underway and needs a better COO. Maybe he’s found a solution to the technical problems about (I’d like to see the patents if that’s the case). But even on a quick search, this has the early hallmarks of a scam.

I refuse to participate in anything the National Park Service sponsors since they decided to side with border patrol in forcefully removing my tribe's land protectors from a border wall construction site. I'm tired of hearing about fat bear week. This whole thing is just a sore reminder that even agencies made with the best intentions and that seem cool on the outside are ultimately tools for colonization at the end of the day 😒

(I say this because so far I've, again, only seen Indigenous ppl posting about orange shirt day.)

I haven't seen a post that says it but yall don't understand sometimes for us, just being here is all we can muster. Existence is resistence when you've survived genocide again and again.

I'm begging allies to post about orange shirt day & reblog native posts. Its one day a year, please. It's emotional & exhausting to always carry the weight of spreading awareness. Allies and especially settlers living on turtle island should be making every effort to help us bear our burden today.

We don't often complain but I will say its hard. And it's exhausting to watch ppl around us scroll past our posts. To be the ones who always have to make posts too or else there just won't be any. There are already so few of us, can you please just pay attention to the ones who made it this far because on a day like today we know damn well not all of us did. We can't afford rest. We can't afford to just Not make awareness or Indigenous content posts. We can't afford to be ignored.

And speaking up for ourselves wouldn't be so hard if we didn't hear the deafening silence where the support of our brothers, sisters, and cousins should be. The same silence that so many settlers are content to join despite still having beating hearts & loud voices.

Today we mourn the cruelties of the residential and boarding school systems.

We mourn our brothers and sisters who were killed by them.

We even sit in the same deafening silence that allowed those atrocities to happen (as we speak detention centers -the same ones who sterilized women without consent- are full & water protectors are brutalized for protecting treaty land)

It doesn't feel like much has changed.

Existence is resistence.

Silence is Violence.

So scream. Yell. Use your voices. Boost ours. At least for today. But do not be silent. Do not be complicit in our harm. Be an accomplice to our progress. Be an ally.
