ironically enough, i watched it last night and even though i'm not a racing fan, i loved it!! it was a lot of fun and had me rooting for jann the whole time
and yes, josha as nick was amazing!! he had only like half a dozen scenes, but he killed it (and looked good every second) he and jann were so enemies-to-lovers coded, i wished we'd seen them interact more
oh nice!!!! yeah i'm in the same boat, i know nothing about racing and have no interest in it (i don't even like doing regular driving lmao rip) but i loved the movie! jann was such a great protagonist, i love him <3
watching josha play a villain was so much fun, i'd love him to do more roles like that! seconded on wishing they'd done more with the Rivalry™, their handful of interactions were top notch but i wanted MORE. that moment when jann was like "you could've killed me and yourself" just floored me with how he is so Good that he's also worried about NICK getting hurt by his own bullshit. also a very good moment of grabbing your rival by the shirt and getting all up in his face to yell at him, u know how it is. they should make out about it, not least because jack's live slug reaction to them dating would be the funniest thing in the entire world dkjdjkfjg
YES YOU GET IT!! i replayed that "you could have killed me and yourself" bit twice, it was so juicy because jann did NOT have to say that, but he did and i love him for it.
i feel like it kind of surprised nick too, he seems like the kind of person whose whole world revolves around racing and nothing else. he's used to allies and competitors, not someone caring about what happens to him. he's obviously wound very tight all the time, a good makeout would definitely calm him down lol. (another silly reason i think they'd be good together: despite nick being quite tall, jann has a couple of inches on him and you just know that would irritate nick even as he likes how it kinda makes him feel safe, jann looking down at him with that idiotic bright grin of his)

the only time randwyn came close to being reciprocal was when rand asked gawyn to come visit him in cairhien and got depressed when gawyn ignored his note. congrats gawyn, you did a good job playing hard to get and making rand pine over you for 1 whole paragraph before going back to forgetting you exist!

i will manage expectations by saying he has an aggregate total of like 10 minutes of screentime in the whole movie, but he is so delightfully cunty in those 10 minutes that i for one was happily fed haha (and i also did genuinely like the movie even regardless of him, it was fun and heartwarming!)

in an ensemble of diverse characters, many of whom are quite unique or groundbreaking for the mainstream fantasy genre, rand is the conventionally attractive white boy chosen one (albeit a subversion of the trope), and so some viewers are always going to find him the most boring of the bunch. nothing anyone can do about that! i'm certainly not knocking on rand, i love him to bits, but i can understand why to some people his story & character may not feel as fresh as the likes of egwene, moiraine, etc. and the beauty of WOT is that there's such a wide variety of characters and something for everyone!
and at the end of the day, rand is and always will be one of the most beloved and popular WOT characters, so he and his fans will survive if 1% of people don't like him. as a fan also of egwene, elayne, and gawyn, my bar for Characters Being Treated Unfairly By Fandom is somewhere in the vicinity of "literally can't even google their name without the search results consisting almost entirely of threads of people acting like the character personally burned their house down and murdered their family" djkfjgh
