So when I was at Oz Comic Con I was talking to Mark Sexton, the lead storyboard artist for Mad Max Fury Road, and he told me that the Crow people on stilts at the Green Place aren’t the abandoned male children of the Vuvalini - they’re what remains of the Vuvalini (female and male) who decided to stay there rather than going off like the ones Furiosa meets. Apparently the Vuvalini split into two groups - those that remained and those that left. The ones that stayed adapted to try and catch crows and eat them and apparently there’s this whole culture they have that was designed but eventually not shown in the movie (though its existence is canon). The Crow People no longer follow the old ways of the Vuvalini (which would explain why the Vuvalini Furiosa meets said “we’re the only ones left” - alternatively the Vuvalini might have thought there’s no way the ones left behind could have survived).

I don’t know where the “Crow people are the children the Vuvalini abandoned because they were male” theory came from but Mark Sexton was privy to all the discussions of the plot of Fury Road and was responsible for quite a bit of it, and he knows the ins and outs of what was shown on screen vs what was not so I’d say his word on the subject can be taken as canon…

Makes me happy to learn this because it bothered me to think of the Vuvalini as being so sexist as to leave male children in an inhospitable place just because they were male. Didn’t ring true.

Fragile leaves wither, colors fade as the king enters the Autumn of his reign.

Something inspired by my trip to Botswana (seeing the lions of Savuti first hand), by Cecil the lion and the general plight of wild lions of Africa whose populations have been in a dangerous spinning freefall since the early 20th century.

THIS IS THE KIND OF CLUB I WANT TO JOIN

FUN FACT: one of these trees is the Hyperion, which ranks as the world’s tallest known living tree.  The exact location of the tree has not been revealed to the public for fear that human traffic would upset the ecosystem the tree inhabits.

We blindfolded 15 homophobes and asked them to hit piñatas with a stick. The piñatas were actually deadly Asian giant hornet nests. What happens next will warm your heart.

This is disgusting bigotry against Christians at its finest.

I love the part where this post never mentioned Christians but you saw the word homophobe and jumped to your own defense anyways.

Zohra Sehgal, a South Asian actress par excellence, actually spoke multiple languages including Urdu, Hindi, English and German. She is one of the earliest international actresses who came from an aristocratic Muslim family in India. When her father insisted that she get married, she outright said, ‘I don’t want to get married,’  and announced that she might become a pilot. In 1917 she went to a boarding school in Lahore, after which, in 1930, she donned a burqa and set off for Europe by road — crossing Iran, Syria, Palestine and Egypt. She trained as a ballet dancer in Germany. Zohra was quite blunt when it came to expressing her opinions. She was an agnostic and defied all the stereotypes about a “Muslim girl from a traditional family”. She was unbelievably bold and confident and was known for her mischievous humor. She earned immense respect in British TV at a time when people were not accepting of ‘diversity’ and even the Asian roles were played by white people. When she had first arrived in Britain, “it was such that if we were sitting in the bus, the British did not sit next to us. Unconsciously in the minds of white people, there was a hesitation”. She defied cultural norms once more when she married her Hindu student eight years younger than her. She never felt welcomed in Lahore, so she left half her family in Pakistan after 1947 Partition and settled in Delhi where she taught a theater group. She raised her children on her own when her husband committed suicide at a young age. She was literally unstoppable and appeared consistently in British TV series like The Jewel in Crown, Mind Your Language and Doctor Who. She has acted in myriad Bollywood films and performed across Japan, Egypt, Europe and the US. She was a classical dancer, choreographer, cinema, theater and television actress whose career spanned over 8 decades. She was awarded Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan, some of the highest civilian honors in India. She was a fighter all her life, she even defeated cancer. On her 100th birthday she said, “I want an electric cremation. I don’t want any poems and fuss after that. And for heaven’s sake don’t bring back the ashes. Flush them down the toilet if the crematorium refuses to keep them. If they tell you that I am dead, I want you to give a big laugh". Zohra aapa lived the life of a grand diva and passed away in 2014 at the age of 102.

“Oh, my burqa was of lovely silk and I was so glad I made petticoats out of it!”

Zohra with her husband Kameshwar Sehgal in 1945.

“What actually makes brings out your beauty is the radiance of being content and you can only be content when you are employed in something you love.”

“You see me now when I am old and ugly, in fact you should have seen me earlier — when I was young and ugly!”

Zohra at her 100th birthday was quietly humming “Abhi To Main Jawan Hoon” (I am still young) by poet Hafeez Jullundhri, as she attacked the huge cake.

“Life’s been tough but I’ve been tougher. I beat life at its own game”

What an amazing face! And an even more amazing woman!

Luxurious and durable, each comb is then engraved with sumptuous detail on front and rear. One side bears the inscription ‘Charisma +1’ a reference to roleplaying systems. The reverse features a beautiful, magic-inspired tribute to magnificent facial hair, featuring lion’s manes and sacred geometry intertwined with mystical beard symbology.Art Director AJ Hateley worked closely with manuscript translator Lucian Stephenson of Cambridge University to develop and illustrate an accurate phrasing of the words 'My Beard is My Strength,’ in the ancient language of the Vikings. The powerful runes engraved on the rear of the comb read in Old Norse, 'Yghvarr Skegg Er Yghvarr Styrkr.’ A genuine work of art, the Comb is a stunning collector’s piece that is also perfect for practical everyday use. MCM just e-mailed me my Dealer’s Pack along with the floor plan!

Once again, the map is tiny as heck, but I’ve done the best I could.

Beastly Beverages is at stall BF5. Just nuzzled in the middle of those other booths there. I will have banners and signs up, so that will make it a little easier to spot me.

Remember, I am in the second hall. MCM has had two dealers halls for the past few years now, and most of the indie businesses are in the second hall.

To find Beastly Beverages, you need to be by either S8 or S9, as my stall is in the middle. S8 and S9 are both registration points, so they’re pretty big and easy to find.

Once again, I’m sorry that the picture is so small, I did my best!
