Hey, people... It’s Cindy speaking here, but I go with the nickname Ace. Some of you probably don’t realize this but I’ve left Tumblr ages ago. Why?

Alright, let me say this: if you think that a victim is harassing you just because they mentioned that someone had done horrible things (abuse, rape, pedophilia, etc.) then YOU are gross. If you even question them and believe that they're faking it just to get attention, YOU are gross. Period. Stop acting like you're better than victims of abuse/rape/pedophilia/etc.. Victims don't own their perpetrators shit. In fact, none of the attacks are the victim's fault. And if you simply cannot understand that, then case in point, you are gross. Victim blaming needs to stop at all costs. Attack the perpetrators. Stop blaming the victims.

sooooo what I’m about to say next probably counts as SU Critical, but I’ve been thinking about it too much to not say these two things:

1. Y’all complaining about “fillers” need to take a seat and watch some earlier episodes again. This show is not nor has it ever been a plot-centric show: it is a character-centric show. Now you are aloud to dislike episodes - that’s okay! But some of y’all who don’t know much about stories or plots or writing need to shhhhhhhhh.

2. Though I have noticed a change in art. Now this is not anything negative to more recent episodes, because I know that art is hard! And I appreciate every person who has made an episode of Steven Universe.

I’ve just noticed when I rewatch old episodes, more time was put into having the art tell the story, too.

Just, for example, I watched Indirect Kiss last night. We got some detailed drawings that worked for comedy as well as story. For instance:

Comedy.

But It also used art to slow down the story and really connect with the characters:

Remember when Steven talked about his complicated feelings for his mother? Or when, after the water came, he imagined the stature reaching down to him?

Do you remember how quiet this scene was? How the wind blew their clothes? How Steven’s hand pulled at his jeans?

That’s what I feel like the newer episodes are missing - the extra touch that uses art to further the emotions of a scene.

But I’ve gotten the impression that those who have noticed the same things I have are thinking the reason for this is laziness - which I believe to be greatly incorrect, and, honestly, a horrible assumption. I know I’m not an artist - but I am a writer - and I can assure you, those who create art take it seriously.

So then, what is it? My guess should be a little concerning. Remember how it takes almost a year to make one Steven Universe episode? You can see that in episodes like Indirect Kiss, can’t you?

I think, ahem, production is being forced to produce episodes quicker or funding is less or different than it once was.

I guess I have no proof other than deduction. And I don’t really know what to do this info. But I thought I’d say it, maybe get a conversation going.

I still love this show, and I will forever love this show and support it. But supporting it also means pointing out what has made the show great - its art.

“Y’all complaining about “fillers” need to take a seat and watch some earlier episodes again. This show is not nor has it ever been a plot-centric show: it is a character-centric show. Now you are aloud to dislike episodes - that’s okay! But some of y’all who don’t know much about stories or plots or writing need to shhhhhhhhh.”

So you mean to tell me you’d rather watch beach city episodes than see what happened to PD? You think thats what children would rather watch? Sure

Now this is not anything negative to more recent episodes, because I know that art is hard!

“Art Is Hard”? These People Are Professionals It Is Literally In Their Job Description To Make Art Look Good

Lmao this show isn’t called Pink Diamond, it’s called Steven Universe. Ofc we’re gonna follow Steven’s life. Sorry, that’s just how a character centric show works. Also, like I said, if you rewatch earlier episodes, you’ll see that most of them are the same “filler” esque as current “filler” episodes. So…shhhhhh.

Hahahaha if you read my post, you’d see that I think it isn’t the artists at fault but rather a certain company requiring a quicker production schedule or maybe cutting funds so sssshhhhhhhhhhh they’re doing their best

Stop saying “shh” freak.

Also your argument is lacking. If the show is surrounding Steven why would we want to watch episodes about characters irrelevant to Steven’s story at large? If you want to discuss season 1 we should probably start with the fact that season one was filled with substantial filler, epic fight scenes and development for the most part.

Artists making shitty art is absolutely at the fault of the artist. These people are paid to create art under time and/or money restraints. These are grown adults who went to college for art, they were hired to make art, not, “try their best uwu”

look, kiddo. at the end of the day, you’re allowed to have whatever opinion you want. and I wouldn’t mind having a nice conversation with you about it. My post’s purpose was simply to:

1. Share my personal opinion

2. Point out that people who don’t know much about writing or art need to step back a little bit

3. Point out that the change in design is most likely due to a production thing and should probably be discussed

But…..kiddo…listen…this show isn’t about you. It literally matters 0% what you want to watch. Yeah, it sucks when a show doesn’t go the way you think it should go, don’t get me wrong, sometimes I feel the same - but then I need to take a step back and realize that whatever show I’m watching is not my art. So, don’t like how SU is going? Create your own art! Poetry, drawings, writings - whatever!

Last point: an artist isn’t paid to do the impossible. If an artist is required to do a year’s worth of art in six months, then s/he can’t produce a miracle. To say these humans are paid to work magic is kinda ridiculous. If my theory is correct, then honestly the art they’re doing for the time constraint is pretty great and I applaud them.

Are you seriously saying that the show isn’t for me, a 15 year old, the closest thing to a member of the target audience?

Saying art is hard is a bullshit argument when people are paid and trained to do it. The show’s crew is lazy and they all follow the “if you can recognize the characters its on model” theory. Which is bullshit because they all attended colleges that trained them to be on model. An artist is paid to the their job, and the crew has been slacking off, just accept it lmao.

The create your own art uwu logic is also bullshit because I have less money, time and materials you waffle.

*sigh* People like you want to make me leave the shitty fandom. Let me begin saying that art is subjective, even if you believe that it’s lazily put. You’re fine to have an opinion on whether the artstyle has gotten “worse” or “better.” To add on, anyone can do art. Novices and experts alike.

“Are you seriously saying that the show isn’t for me, a 15 year old, the closest thing to a member of the target audience?” That is NOTHING what the OP implied. The show caters to teens and adults but you act like it has to be you and people of the similar age frame to enjoy the show. It’s AS IF you’re saying whoever is older than you cannot enjoy it. Sounds pretty condescending.

You need to grow up. Not everyone is gonna share the same opinion with you. Some people, like me, really don’t mind the current artstyle. Call me unappreciative for art but art is subjective and no one can argue against that.

Art is subjective kay but sis it doesn’t look the same and it should so sip it

I still stand to what I say. You should get over it. So what if it doesn't look the same? Not everything has to be 100% consistent.
