The Wayhaven Chronicles - Update 10/Nov/2023

Super busy week this week! We have a very strict schedule to ensure this Christmas story is released on time, so it’s full steam ahead :D

We decided to do this game on the Ren’py engine, which obviously is quite the switch. It will still be text-based, but we can add a bit more pizzazz to it with some fun Christmas designs, GUI, as well as add in some music!

Obviously, this does present the problem of not being able to transfer in saves from Choicescript, but as this is a stand-alone story not affected by main game events, so that’s not a worry.

But I do want it to be super quick and easy to make your MC in this game seeing as you can’t just transfer them in—definitely not have to go through dozens of screens to do that! So I’ve managed to come up with a way to make it that you can pick your stats on one screen—simple and quick!

Nai has been designing the GUI aspects, and they look SO merry and amazing! You might have seen the work-in-progress stat screen I was just talking about this week that she posted.

It’s been quite the experience re-learning how to code GUI again, as it’s been quite some time that I’ve worked on Ren’py, and it’s been updated quite a bit since then :D But it’s coming together really nicely, so very pleased with that and the feel it’s giving to the game!

Something else I forgot would need to be thought of is fonts. So we’ve been trying to figure out the best font to make it unique, Christmassy, but very readable.

We’re also starting to think about how to look for some testers for releasing it on Mac computers. I’ve never had issue with releasing visual novels on Mac in the past as Ren’py games seem pretty stable on those, but we want to be super sure of it before being able to say yay or nay! :D

And then of course there was writing and coding the actual game itself, hehe! I’m having to be more strict with myself on too many dialogue choice sets seeing as it’s supposed to be a lighter game…but you guys know what I’m like by now, lol! Still want it to feel like a Wayhaven game and just as immersive 😁.

This ‘novella/side-story’-type game will be a lovely short story between books to indulge in some fluffy, light, super romantic holiday fun!

It will be available on itch.io for everyone to purchase but will be offered for free as part of the $5 and up Patreon membership tiers as a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all of Mishka's Patrons who have supported, and continue to support her, so generously (it will be available as a Windows download, and we are trying our best to get this sorted for Mac users too)!

I'm sooo looking forward to revealing more about this project - I just know it's going to be magical

The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update 09/Sept/2022

Short one this week as I’m super in the zone on the majorly emotional scene I’m working on!

Chapter 18A is coming excitingly well! I’ve added in a couple of extra choice sets, but they were definitely worth it as I want more opportunity for the MC to make their opinion known in that scene. Especially as it’s such a seriously dramatically intense moment!

Social media days went super smoothly too this week! Had a lot of Mason/Morgan asks this month, so they were fun to answer :D

Loved writing the Patreon scenarios! The Adam/Ava halloween-ish scenario was great fun! It’s nice to see Adam/Ava and the MC kind of just enjoying their time together and forgetting about the drama sometimes, hehe!

I ended up deciding on Mason/Morgan for the love interest PoV of Chapter 6, Book Three for the Unseen Scene this month. So hope you guys enjoy that ;)

Nai will be away next week, so no reblogs, but there will be Instagram post scheduled as she has some fun things ready to go for those.

I will definitely have finished Chapter 18A tomorrow, so I’ll be starting on version B next week!!

The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update 3/Sept/2021

Was a bit of a mix-up week this week! :D

Totally forgot it was the start of September until Nai turned to me and was like, ‘Isn’t it social media days this week?’. We had a bit of a panic then because we were behind with that! 

But I managed to catch up with it! 

Started on asks and then onto indulging in some Patreon content: It’s F’s turn to receive some interesting advice as well as the carnival photograph in the Unseen Scene, N’s room will be on display in one of the bonus contents, and I just couldn’t resist but give a glimpse into a deep romance A in the second monthly bonus content…I will put up a spoiler warning on that one though for anyone who would rather wait and experience that feeling in-game! :D

But after that I managed to get back to editing Chapter 7 and 8. I was talking to someone the other day and saying how seeing Chapter 8 finally come to life has been such a burst of joy for me! It took so long, and it was a really hard push at times, but now—playing it through as the actual game—I am just SO happy!

Book Three is turning out to be the game I’ve always dreamed of not just creating, but playing! :D I love that it reacts more to my character and who they are. I love that there’s a real focus on the romance, and not just something tacked on. I love that when I play through again, I can play with the same LI and get a different feel for the romance. And I am so glad I’ve pushed to put those extra bits in, even if it seems unimportant at the time or that extra work has seemed too much.

Like even small stuff feels like it makes a huge difference. For example, I was writing a line for A where they’re like, 'We’ll meet you back at the warehouse’. But if they’re your LI, then they say the line 'We’ll meet you back at home’. I know that doesn’t seem like much, but to me as a player, I find those things matter and draw me in more to the story.

I really hope it will do the same for you guys!

I just had a real overwhelming moment of happiness while test playing and editing this week! I don’t know what it was, it just hit me out of the blue, and I was pretty emotional for a while, so excuse my rambling! :D

Anyways, editing is coming along at a pace, which I’m really pleased about, especially as I’m adding in quite a bit for Chapter 7. 

As much as I love what I’ve done, I am keen to really get a move on now Chapter 8’s writing is finished. I know there’s another huge split scene chapter coming up (dinner party with Tina or Verda, anyone?), but I don’t think that’s for a while yet, so I’m hoping to really push through the less branching chapters.

Though saying that, Chapter 9 actually has two versions of it because…of course it does, lol! But they both have a similar structure, so it’s much easier to handle, and it’s not an individual chapter per LI like Chapter 8.

So yeah, a busy, hectic week, but I’m forging ahead!

Folks on the right always seem very concerned that AOC was a bartender. They ignore her prestigious education and the fact that she graduated with distinction. They ignore that she has relevant degrees. And they ignore that she worked for the nonprofit National Hispanic Institute gaining relevant experience in activism.

I’ve also noticed that conservatives constantly complain about “elites.” They propped up “Joe Six Pack” because they felt too many lawmakers were out of touch and they wanted people who understood the common folk. Blue collar workers are the heart and soul of America, right? 

Did you know that nearly half of congress is filled with lawyers? And the rest are mostly businessmen. What do lawyers know about my life? What do lawyers know about struggling to pay bills? What do lawyers know about what it’s like to hold a low wage job? How are they supposed to represent me and my needs?

Do you know why AOC worked as a bartender? Her father died and her mother’s jobs as a house cleaner and bus driver were not enough to fight foreclosure. So Alexandria put her career ambitions on hold and got a job as a bartender to help her mom. Conservatives are all about “family values” right? AOC valued her family so much that she worked a grueling job out of love for her mom. 

And you want to trivialize that?  

AOC knows my struggle more than Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. I have confidence that AOC will represent me and my family’s needs more so than any lawyer or businessman who is just looking to enrich themselves. 

Maybe we need a few more bartenders and a few less lawyers. 

Republicans: “Work hard and get a better job, snowflake” AOC: *works hard and gets a better job* Republicans: “N-No, not like that”
