Before anyone gets back on that weird “Nicolas is only 14” and “if you ship Vashwood you’re a p***”

1. Wolfwood has no canon age. He is merely listed as young adult to 24-28 in both manga and anime 1998.

The 14 -16 years was a mistranslation by a fan translation and was debunked by the creator over a decade ago.

2. Before anyone comes at people for the “eyes of Michael serum makes him age faster he’s still a minor” nonsense. It makes your METABOLISM AND MUSCLE GROWTH FASTER. The corrected translation was not “I age faster” it was “ Im dying faster”

3. Here is canon evidence of other characters aging alongside Nicolas and Livio who were grown up alongside them and not apart of the Eyes of Michael

Justine: younger than both Nick and Livio as children and is a full grown woman by volume 10 showing at least 12-16 years have passed assuming she is between 16-22

Maylene: was a baby that Nicolas took care of when he was young at the orphanage. She is again grown up by volume 8 when he sees her again a young lady. She is referred to as kid by Nick but she is also pursued to be a wife by a very scummy guy. This could guess her age is probably between 16- 18 as she appears to be past puberty.

If we play devils advocate and say Nicolas was under 10 he’d still be at least 21+ years old by the start of this series.

The line where Nicolas says it’s been 4 years since he left the orphanage is also incorrect. It was 4 years since he LAST visited. The matron of the orphanage also comments how it’s been “so many years!” Since they last saw him. Now that of course is semantics on how a person views how many is so many. But I’m gonna guess more than 4.

Now the 1998 anime is it’s own Beast, it didn’t follow the manga timeline and also did not include Nicks entire backstory. Ntm what little it did was heavily altered. But the age listed on the Wikipedia for anime specifically states 24-26.

So in conclusion and using canon characters from the source manga with updated translations and tracking the years listed we can fathom Nicolas D Wolfwood was at least 20-23 at the lowest at the start of the series and by the end was 24-29 after all time skips taken into account.

So rejoice all Vashwood shippers, he’s legal. He’s scruffy. But legal. Love and Peace!

I'm adding an addendum to this due to the new additions of story thanks to Stampede.

Stampede has proceeded in time with an advanced aging and as such this completely disregarded all existing canon including the additional children that grew up alongside Wolfwood and Livio. As stampede was already playing loose with its source material it's not all that shocking. That being said Im definitely not a fan of the new series and it's taken what was already a good strong story and stripped it down and reformed it into what honestly comes across as a jumbled mess.

The progression of the story implies you need to already know the existing characters to understand their importance but then completely change the narrative that built those characters to begin with. This makes new fans of the series have a difficult time grasping the events as they are thrown out and around at a crazed speed. No real development of character, we are just now meeting Legato and the Eyes of Michael are now fundamentally different.

This last part was of course just an opinion so don't let my opinion sway you. Enjoy the media! Appreciate the art. But maybe give the source a passing glance for a much more well defined story and build up that doesn't feel like a rushed project to cram as much as you can of an IP into a 12 episode run.
