Late Night Stories Vol. 16 Eren Yeager "A Story of Looking Back"
Midnight neared as the soldiers occupied the former Survey Corps headquarters. The armed members of the Survey Corps Special Operations Squad, better known as Squad Levi, were gathered in a room where they prepared to test the abilities held by Eren, the subject of their observation.
"Hange and the Captain are late," Eren nervously muttered.
"They're probably busy explaining things to the brass. Doing experiments at night is dangerous, after all," Petra said, trying to put him at ease.
"That's right, Eren. All we've ever seen are your records. We don't know much about who you are as a person. Why don't you tell us about that while we wait?" their leader, Eld, said as everyone turned to look at Eren.
"What? But I don't know what to talk about…"
"Anything, even something trivial. Like a story from when you were in the Training Corps," Günther casually replied, inviting him to talk. No matter how special Eren's abilities might have been, he couldn't disobey his seniors.
"…Alright."
"You'd better entertain us, newbie …"
"Stop sounding so disgusting, Oluo. Just be quiet and listen to what he has to say."
Eren took a sip of his tea before opening his mouth again…

"My father was a doctor…and I think I was born into reasonably well-off family. It didn't even really affect our lives after we took Mikasa in when she lost her parents."
Eren started to go back over his short but eventful life.
"Oh, you mean that recruit who was staring daggers at the Captain when he kicked you?"
"Yes, she's family… And family is something she's lost twice."
The others now understood. If her wild actions had come out of a desire to protect those closest to her, it made sense.
"She's had to experience a happy home being destroyed in front of her, after all…"
"Yes. And after that, we went to a settlement."

A young Eren and Mikasa, together with their childhood friend, Armin, helped each other survive in the settlement that tilled its barren land and tried to grow whatever food it could.
"Even then…Mikasa had amazing strength. She could clear rocks that even adults had trouble with using a single rod."
"So she made sure to live up to her reputation once she joined the Training Corps."
"That's right. The three of us applied to join at the same time. Training was tough at first…but we learned the skills we need to face off against Titans thanks to it."
Eren clenched his fist and thought of his many days of training. He was so desperate to keep his own head above water then that he barely noticed what went on around him.
"That's right… I was able to meet lots of other people my age from lots of different circumstances… I guess that was a good experience, too."
Annie, who acted quiet but taught him practical hand-to-hand combat skills. Reiner, who acted more like a soldier than any of them, and earned trust from them all. Jean, whom he never agreed with, but whose Vertical Maneuvering abilities he could learned so much from…
When Eren thought about it, he realized that it may have been the Training Corps where he first learned how to be social.

"Oh… Yeah, I guess you were just a regular recruit. The recruits in my year were important to me, too."
"Hey, Petra. What about your buddies here in the Survey Corps?" Eld joked as Petra smiled now that Eren had finished.
"You already know the answer to that! You're all important to me."
When Eren saw the trust his seniors showed for one another, he suddenly lowered his gaze. He still didn't know anything about the other recruits who had become Survey Corps members.
"Am I…going to become…someone you trust, too?"
"Hmph. That's up to you…"
"I thought I told you to stop talking like that… Honestly, we barely know you yet. But I feel like it's possible after hearing what you just said."
"Thank you…very much."
As soon as Eren said this, they heard the door open. Everyone looked in its direction.
"Sorry for making you all wait!"
"We got permission. We'll start the experiment."
The members of Squad Levi saluted their returning superiors. Among them, Eren had become one of many soldiers.

Eld's second episode from AOT Tactics
This explanation is based on my own translation. Please don’t repost as yours.
Here is a more detailing post about Hiroshi Kamiya’s explanation in the interview about the scene of Petra’s father and its changes about manga and anime. As he said, in the original version, Mr. Ral used the words "惚 気 / noroke" while in the anime he said "ほ う け / houke or hōke".
Manga/Original version: We can see how kanjis match perfectly with Hiroshi’s words. So If we translate the sentence, it would say something like "She said he was going to give it all to you. Well ... she's so in love with you that she doesn't know what his father is going through (laughs)."
Looking for “Noroke” in a dictionary, is defined as 1) Being in love/Fall in love with; 2) Speaking fondly of a loved one. So they match perfectly.

If we pay attention, we can hear him to say “ Houkete iyagaru wa ke desu wa (laughs).” So, If we translate the sentence, it would say: "She said she was going to give it all to you. Well ... she's so excited/starry-eyed to consider how her father feels (laughs)."
Looking for "Houke" in the dictionary, it has three meanings: 1) Becoming senile / childish with age; 2) Be mentally slow, be confused; 3) Becoming ungrossed (in something). So I think number 3 is more logic with the conversation.
Conclusion: Officially, Mr. Ral told to Levi that Petra was in love with him. Of course we can’t forgot the marriage part.
I made an amateur translation to Spanish about this old interview with Hiroshi Kamiya (Levi VA), Yuki Kaji (Eren VA) and Hiro Shimono (Connie VA).

If you don’t speak Spanish, here is a summary:
This is a second part of the interview and Hiroshi were talking about differences between manga and anime (like the scene when Petra corpse was tossed) but on this video He mentioned when Petra’s father talked to him about her letter.
Hiroshi made a clear difference between the words Mr. Ral used in manga and anime and how it changes the nuance of Petra’s feelings to Levi. So he asked to Yuki and Hiro if those differences were intentional or not, because he is a dedicated person on these things so he must have special attention on details.
Manga: Hiroshi said that in the original story, Petra's father said [惚気ちまって] but in the anime version he said [ほうけちまって]. Well on this part, I tried to translate both of them and what I understood is that "Noroke chimatte" means something like being in love (Petra was in love of Levi) and the second version "Houke chimatte" means something like being an engrossed person with something (because she was Levi's subordinate).
As I said, this is an amateur translation so If someone who knows more about japanese sees something different, please let me know.

"All that's left is the tea. Can you take care of it, Oluo?"
"Yeah… I got this."
It was, as always, a busy morning.
The Survey Corps Special Operations Squad, also known as Squad Levi, was working to make yet another simple breakfast from their provisions in the old Survey Corps headquarters they temporarily called home.
"…Hm?"
As his fellow soldiers carried trays to the table, Oluo began to make some tea, his superior officer's favorite…but Oluo felt like something was off as he performed this simple task.
These tea leaves… While the average person would think they're regular leaves…
He looked at the tea he had just opened with his own hands and was sure.
There's no mistaking it. This…is going to be an issue.

As Oluo brought the teapot into the dining hall, the "issue" was already beginning to manifest. Everyone was looking with suspicious at a sheet of paper that seemed to be from Levi, their leader.
"What's going on here, Petra?" Oluo asked as calmly as he could.
"We got a report from the Military Police first thing in this morning. It said the tea we were supplied with the other day was 'unfit for consumption,' and that we should return it all without opening it up."
"Unfit…for consumption?"
That was strange.
The Military Police had given them the notice, but they were known to hoard all the best meat and luxurious alcohol for their own use. They considered the Survey Corps utter idiots.
"They're the kind of bunch that would go out of their way to give us the bad-quality stuff…"
It seemed like they would have loved the chance to get rid of anything unfit for consumption by handing it off to the soldiers at the bottom of the totem pole. As everyone wondered why they would bother to take it back, Levi asked a question.
"Oluo, did you use the tea yet? Did you notice anything?"
The Captain's voice was calm, almost as if he knew exactly what was going on.
I knew it… That Tea…!
Oluo nodded and gradually began to give his opinion as he poured each of the others their tea.

"Now listen… Tea comes in different grades. But that doesn't have anything to do with its quality… It's all a matter of the size of the leaves…
Of all the corpsmen present, Oluo was the only one to see the tea they had been given. He also knew that something was different about it.
"Does that have something to do with this commotion about a recall?"
"Stay cool, Petra… The truth isn't going to sneak away from us. It's right in front of your eyes, after all."
"Stop talking like such a creep. I'm telling you to give us your conclusion."
Oluo handed his offended corpsmate her tea as he explained.
"The tea that makes it all the way down to us is a blend of late-picked, poor-quality teas. No matter how high the grade, there's not going to be any noticeable change in taste. However… This was something different. The tea had a young colour and a deep aroma… While the size and shape of the leaves is no different from our usual blend, the actual product is something entirely different. This is made from the leftovers of the kind of first-flush tea leaves that those damned aristocrats drink in the interior!"
"The colour of the tea being lighter than usual is proof of that," he proudly concluded.

His squadmate Eld took a small sip. He did feel like something was different about the taste, but he cocked his head to the side.
"…So you're saying they accidentally sent some high-quality tea our way, and that they're trying to take it back because we're not worthy of it?"
"It's not like cover-ups are anything new for that bunch… Someone was probably too drunk and sent us the wrong supplies by accident, and now they're trying to hide the fact and get it back by claiming the tea isn't fit for consumption."
Oluo looked to the captain he so respected for backup. Levi took a sip of the tea in his hand and seemed to enjoy it more than usual before he sighed.
"You're right… This does seem a little better than the cheap tea we always get. Oluo's reasoning must be right. But…"
"Captain?"
Everyone in the squad, including its recruit, had their eyes on Levi, who seemed to be deep in thought.
So he's saying…that's not all…?!
Oluo was on pins and needles as he waited to hear what words would come from the mouth of the man he unconsciously aspired to become.

Seeing her have lines and being animated, it makes me think 'she was the one who stayed by Levi's side'. Petra understood Levi about himself deeply, so she stayed with him. I am truly grateful.
