Character design is fun.  I love the early stages of exploration, finding the personality and shape language.  Here you see the simple task of designing a dragon (no color or textures yet, the pink is arbitrary to help display silhouette), and in most of these I was primarily thinking of the face, letting the body come later.  You can also see that I just can’t help myself and start drawing bodies. Hope you enjoy a peek at these drawings.

I’ve just wrapped up a picture book for Penguin-Random House, and it was an excellent experience. The entire team is so driven, compassionate, talented, and incredibly giving. This book hits close to home with me, which is why I chose to team up with this great group on this particular story. It’s a tale of a Grandfather and grandson connecting in a very unique and inspiring way. The book showcases themes of imagination, storytelling, exploring, travel, creativity, and above all else, loving family. It’s a great project, and I can’t wait for you to read it! I’ll be sharing more as it gets closer to publication. Hope you enjoy these little teaser images! They are merely details of small sections of the book.
