This is so weird. I’ve fallen headfirst into Mystrade rabbit hole. I mean.. after a long time, there’re actually multiple AO3 tabs open right now. (Not like 37 or something, nope that never happened ever. Truth.) (*makes a new year’s resolution to increase tab production*) The fic-things I don’t do as a principle - but have done for this pairing:
- Reading WIPs
- Reading wingfics. (I needed to be desperate to read those.)
- Reading animal!character fics.
- Reading series 4 compliant fics! (Still haven’t done it for my OTP.)
Also, there’s a surprisingly large number of established relationship fics. Not usually my cup of tea, but I am liking them?! There’re some fics which I have read twice in one go. Yeah. Like finished it, and started reading again. Right away. What’s the most weird is, combing through AO3 for Mystrade, I don’t want to see foreground Johnlock! (It needs to be there, but in background only.)

Uhhh.. I’m just going through AO3 kudos-sorted! But every Mystrade fic by mydwynter, EventHorizon, and out_there. And this abso-fucking-lute gem of a series “Pater Noster” manic_intent. This is the series I read thrice right away! Oh and in WIPs department, @mottlemoth‘s Excultus. I spent my New Year’s Eve reading it, and was completely unaware of New Year chiming in! I’ve kept my distance from it since then because I need to feel that rush - rush of reading something too good in one go like a glutton. So I keep refreshing AO3 page to see it’s updated, and the updates are very regular. It might take another few months for it to finish, so I’m torn between whether to read whatever is updated or wait. Sorry for no links, but hopefully usernames should give you all the necessary links.

Good news for you. Excultus is finished, and going through final edits as we speak. I’m going to be unleashing a chapter every couple of days from now on.
If you’re looking for recs, I must guide you at once in the direction of our wonderful @green-violin-bow. She is a jewel of our pairing. Just A Cuppa is a magnificent short introduction to Mystrade, or for a long and delicious slowburn, Out of Thought has also been podficced by @lockedinjohnlock.
You could also get cosy in Green’s collected short ficlets and drabbles. (Each one is a tiny masterpiece.)
