Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning
Okay, I approached the movie the wrong way. I though The Final is going to segue into The Beginning. But it’s not the case.
It’s a two separate films.
The Beginning is just like a prequel that they decided to film together lol.
It’s also the most... ‘realistic’ film, I supposed if we want to call that, compared to other films in Kenshin series. In other films, the action and the fighting scenes seems to go on for a while, but in The Beginning, it’s over almost instantly. That’s because Kenshin kills. He slashed and it’s over.
Also, he’s fast. So damm fast.
I like Ando Masanobu, but his appearance is too short for me. Although to be fair, the character he played is about to die due to tuberculosis. It’s too bad as he has a good-looking cinema face. *sigh*
Also, hi Kitamura Kazuki! Lucky I recognise your voice everywhere, cos you are pretty unrecognisable here lol.
But... I love the way the seamlessly incorporate the first Kenshin in this film. It fits. It’s like they shoot the whole scenes together. But they didnt. Because you’ve seen everything before in the first Kenshin.
Then it made me realised how fricking good the 22-years old Takeru was. Sure, his face looks young compared to the rest of the scenes in The Beginning. But acting-wise? He’s there. The 22-years old Takeru knows you got to do this right back then so it stands up 10 years later.
And I choked up cos 10 years ago, I did stayed up until early morning for this. And now, with The Beginning, I kinda did the same (although, older now, obviously, it’s not that late).
So yea, thank you for the amazing 10 years.
