The First Time I Saw Palm Tree:
It was around midnight. After an 18-hour travel day, I had just arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia.
As I stepped out of the airport and headed to the van taking us to the hotel, I saw it. A whole line of palm trees across the street.
I felt giddy with excitement and I couldn’t help but let out a few muffled giggles.
Although the concept of palm trees was familiar, it was such a strange feeling to know that I could now go up and touch them for myself. Apart from that time I was a baby (which I have no recollection of), this was my first time outside of North America and in a tropical country.
The sight of palm trees made it concrete that I was really in a different part of the world!
Then a few month later in Montpellier, I encountered palm trees again and I felt just as excited as the first time! 😁 Has anyone felt something similar? Perhaps encountering snow for the first time? I’d love to hear about in the comments!
