By the time Prince showed up, Shea hardly noticed. He was too busy tending to the dance floor, packed with people entranced by this new sound a validation his hunch had been right.
“I was just mostly into that crowd in my hands. They were right there, digging music that I’d wanted people to hear and get into,” he says. “I thought, ‘OK, this is really cool. We just started a scene.’ ”
