Star Trek makes social commentaries on race, social justice, and religion as well as science. Genetic engineering is a technology where writers can show how all of these issues converge. From eugenics - Space Seed (TOS), Masterpiece Society (TNG), and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), to gene therapy - Doctor Bashir, I Presume (DS9), to manipulating DNA in embryos- Lineage (VOY), we are closer than ever to being able to change a person's genetic makeup. What does this mean for people with inherited disabilities? What does it mean for people who want designer babies? Dr. Lehmann interviewed script writers and scientists while writing her book All You Need To Know About Disability Is On Star Trek. She has put together a humorous but accurate look at genetic engineering as seen on Star Trek., sprinkled with short summaries about where we currently are in our genetic sciences. How long until doctors will be able to cure genetic disorders or create designer babies? We're a lot closer than you may think!   This panel will be followed by a book signing! 

Join our special guests Michael Coleman (Happy), Beverley Elliott (Granny), and Faustino Di Bauda (Sleepy), in a special Q&A session where they will answer your questions about everyones favourite show about fairy tales.  Wishes can come true, and if you wish upon a star, you never know who else might show up from the show to join them or what interesting stories they might share!  

Rated as amazing by the press and awesome by anyone with a working set of ears, Improv Against Humanity is Vancouver’s own improvisational comedy based on the epic game Cards Against Humanity.

If you’ve ever played CAH and thought what it needed was your very own crew of comedy artists to act out your answers and get carried away, then The Fictionals are your bros. In front of a live studio audience, randomly-drawn contestants will play Cards Against Humanity while some of Vancouver’s hottest comedians will bring the beautiful / wonderful / horrific cards to life! When we work together we all win at being horrible!

When she’s awoken by a chatty, British, blue-eyed robot, she finds herself in a facility that is overgrown and falling apart. Together, the two attempt an escape, inadvertently stirring…. something.

Featuring a cast of fourteen of Geekenders’ favourite performers, the theatre troupe called a “cult sensation” by Vancity Buzz is pulling out all the stops to ensure a joyful, memorable night for geeks of all types as they present a concert version of their smash-hit musical.

If you love costumes, prizes, and challening the limits of your craftsmanship, Northwest Fan Fest’s costume contest is the event for you! As the largest costume contest in BC with some of the best prizes in Canada, we encourage costumers of all skill levels to engage in friendly competition and bring their favourite characters and designs to life in front of an audience.

We will close entries once we reach maximum capacity, so remember to register sooner than later!
