So the James Webb telescope just took a picture of a galaxy that is 29 million light years away.

If that wasn't cool enough NASA decided to peel away all the cosmic dust in order to see the bones of the Galaxy itself.

Nero nodded slowly, reminded that this particular celestial vessel was capable of true professionalism unlike so many of her peers. For all her temper, Ariana did have the qualifications to survive as a consort to the Void Throne. It was a refreshing change from most his recent encounters.

"Very well. I assume you're to some extent aware of the different types and subspecies of stars, so I'll save the background lecture on that. Blue starkind – descendants of those who long abandoned the practice of sequestering their hearts and only exist in their 'creature' forms, but celestials nevertheless – have gone all but extinct in the past couple of centuries." Nero frowned, the room somehow seeming to darken with his expression, though the out-of-place luminosity about the black hole himself refused to dim. "I'd be inclined to call it poaching. You, I suspect, would relate it more to the words 'deliberate genocide'. The source of the information described it as 'harvesting'."

A pause, followed by stillness where someone with a normal constitution might have taken a slow breath. The intangible forces fluttering Nero's hair and clothing lessened, a shift in the pressure as the singularity forced his form under stronger control.

"The laws of the cosmos dictate that the weak will be preyed on by the strong. But in this case, the blue starkind were hunted down and... used up... by a terrestrial civilization that somehow has technology capable of enslaving sapient, aware celestials and draining them for their energy."

Nero wasn’t sure what he thought of Sterling claiming ability to work with blood of the Void – on one hand, the star’s level of ability reinforced the validity of the interest the black hole had had in him for a long while now. On the other hand… rare was the singularity who relinquished their life’s essence willingly, so the ability implied past associations of… unwelcome nature.

Still, suppose needs must.

“A gift of such value isn’t relinquished lightly.” It was a merit to Sterling that he was willing to offer an open deal in return, and one that wasn’t enforced the way one in Silence would. “Even a drop is worth more than your life on its own. I’d have an oath from you, to fulfil requests that match those specifications at later date until we can agree an equivalent value has been repaid.“

 So, basically… he wanted him to be like his own errand boy. Sterling begged many questions as to WHY, to which sadly in the end he already knew the answer despite his dismay. 

And it was the right one. 

“Alright. But, if we’re going to do this we might as well make this into an official document.” 

Even if it was merely his notepad as he started noting down agreement requirements that stated no ill intent, no risky business, no fast-ones or nothing that’d harm those around him… In addition as well of no harm to Nero’s own well-being just as much. 

Fair is fair, after all. 

“This seems good for you… partner?” 

Now all it took was taking this poor sinner’s hand to seal the deal.

Finally. Every unaffiliated celestial close to those he’d already tied to himself one way or another was an additional variable Nero did not need right now. And this particular one? Protected by at least two connections of his had he not sought the black hole out himself. For the first time during the entire interaction, the dark celestial’s smile returned.

“A paper contract? If it’ll make you feel better, I suppose.” It wasn’t like anything not wrought under Silence would actually bind a black hole to follow its terms, though Nero had no intention on going back on his word. Not unless keeping it became too much of an inconvenience. And he certainly wouldn’t share such lost knowledge as the Rite of Silence with someone who would be likely to use it on him.

“It seems acceptable... my little voidsmith.”

It was true that a skilled craftsman - or a black hole weaving it for the purpose from the very start - could create something lightweight enough to be easily concealed, yet with the full strength of its materials. To make it comfortable for a Child of Light to don, however… unlike most other beings, the blood of black holes was far from inert, and would seek to consume any light it came in contact with, unless it was bound with enough of somethign else to stabilise it.

“Let’s say I’m not entirely against providing my blue with a defensive artefact of that strength. Can you actually work with voidweave or with the raw blood of the void? The level of skill it demands is astronomical, and few ever get the chance to learn.”

“I can,” In addition a finger pointed towards the blackhole, 

“And with you working by the side should something go wrong. Of course, I’m sure you wish something in return… 

..and whatever it may be, I’ll give it to you. Though it can’t be anything that will affect my own family.”

Though something told Sterling it may be mainly related to him should Nero decide on what he wanted. Stardust? A nibble? Perhaps some of his own creations. He waited with anticipation, hoping for the best.. for both his being and the deal.
