It is about the spiders. Do you breed them pet sized? or maybe mount sized? Do you have a training program?

“I would not give the Dark Lord the pleasure of such innuendos. My Guard trains to eradicate the Spiders, not to ride them.”

because they are such wonderful ears that they deserve nibbles from a suitable person of course

“You are very kind, thank you for the compliment. My hounds, Pigen and Nimp have done their best to ensure that my ears and face are well nibbled.”

is there anybody you would let nibble on your ears?

“Yes, yes there is. Why do you ask?”

are you proud of being able to say all dwarves look the same to you without actually being racist?

“I think you, Grey one, are the person who should be proud. That is a clever joke. Far better and more creative than those who have asked what my elf eyes see. I must say though, no two Dwarves smell the same. It’s very much like walking into a cheese shop.”

I'm sorry about Oropher. It was tragic to see him swayed by Noldo curs and filthy human rabble, and his death was such a waste. Choose wiser friends and you'll have peace forever.

10, 19, 22?

“Nothing like some quality introspection to start the day I suppose.”

10:Someone who makes you happy effortlessly?

“This one is easy. My son and my wife, or rather her spirit and touch that still lingers in our garden.”

19:Thoughts on affection/intimacy.

“I’m not quite sure what I am supposed to say here. My thoughts on intimacy vary greatly depending on who the other party or parties are. I do believe there are some immutable standards or rules when it comes to intimate matters. The first is consent. No amount of ale or wine or other party favour justifies robbing someone of their dignity or security. The second is laughter. Laughter and conversation. A strong marriage is full of it. Not cruel laughter of course, unless it is the kind that comes after tickling someone’s foot that is sticking out from under the duvet. The third is to never leave toenails or crumbs in the bed.”

22. A time when you felt the most yourself?

“I always feel like myself when I am hunting. I do not feel empowered by having control over a game animal’s life, but rather by the whole experience. Even if I come back with empty hands and a full quiver; the crisp bite of the air, the sounds of everything in the Forest and field unfurling and chirping in tandem with the hoofbeats of my mount will stay with me for days. I also gained a new appreciation for what it means to “feel like myself” after Legolas’s birth. My initial recovery after Dagorlad…was not one of the most proud parts of my life.

Endeavouring to rebuild the Greenwood with my injuries and the tragically diminished numbers of my people was no small feat. Mirkwood would not be the flourishing force it is today without many, many loyal, resilient souls and helping hands. After my wife passed during the birth of our son, I collapsed into a bottle of Dorwinion wine. Several bottles of Dorwinion wine. The moment I was roused and an attendant put my swaddled son in my arms, I felt as though I had broken through the ice covering the Marshes that had been trying to drown me with far more potency than the wine. I felt renewed, and truly like who I was supposed to be.”

Things to ponder: blind!Thranduil

Time injury sustained: Dagorlad/Battle of the Last Alliance

Elven regeneration:

“They were thus capable of far greater and longer physical exertions (in pursuit of some dominant purpose of their minds) without weariness; they were not subject to diseases; they healed rapidly and completely after injuries that would have proved fatal to Men; and they could endure great physical pain for long periods. Their bodies could not, however, survive vital injuries, or violent assaults upon their structure; nor replace missing members (such as a hand hewn off).” -Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth

Elven medical procedure:

1. Determine the nature of the injury

2. Preliminary treatment:

  •  For physical injuries, have those on hand prepare a fire and boil water.
  •  For spiritual/magical injuries, immediately combat the malady at a spiritual level.

3a. Treat open wounds:

  •  remove foreign material (dirt, poison, arrowheads) and clean thoroughly.
  • Staunch bleeding.
  •  optional: treat for pain.
  •  bandage/bind.

3b. Treat contusions/breaks:

  •  bathe area with infusion to reduce pain, swelling.
  • pad or splint as needed. Bind.

4. Keep patient warm and rest.

  •  For spiritual maladies, one may need to continue calling to the spirit and strengthening it.
  •  For physical maladies, one may reapply herbs to ease pain, hasten healing.

Now the fun part. Elven senses are extremely heightened and probably compensate much quicker than mortal ones.

Would Thranduil’s blindness cause him to employ his senses much like the Spiders do? (Smell, vibration, lens shifting in good eye etc.)

Hrmmmmm…

Reblogging because it hasn’t been 24 hours into my return and already ableism has trumped canon study.

Bowhunting may have fostered social cohesion during the Neolithic

Bowhunting during the Neolithic period may have been one of the pillars of unity as a group of primitive human societies. This is one of the main conclusions reached by a team of Spanish archaeologists with the participation of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), which has analyzed the Neolithic bows found in the site of La Draga (Girona, Spain). The study has been published in the ‘Journal of Archaeological Science’.

As CSIC researcher Xavier Terradas, from the Milá i Fontanals Institution (IMF-CSIC), explains: “Comparing the scarce remains of wild animals and the abundant hunting gear found in the site, we conclude that nutrition was not the main aim of developing hunting objects. Neolithic archery could have had a significant community and social role, as well as providing social prestige to physical activity and individuals involved in it”. Read more.
