❛ a touching story, ECLIPSE, but HARDLY enough to earn my PITY. ❜

❝ if you don’t like the way things are why don’t you change them? ❞ he might be inclined to ask himself that in the future, when he’d be B L I N D E D by the loyalty to his cousin, the love, and the familial ties they shared– to realize what he was becoming, who he was turning into. a sith, cold and cruel && with an agenda all of his own that for a while would involve ben being kept in the palm of JACEN’S hand. ❝ you don’t have to be a bad guy——-
YOU COULD FORGET ABOUT ALL OF THIS.❞
‘ things are not so simple- ’ there’s a small sigh, and an avoidance of his eyes. — you are doubted enough, do not give more reason. ‘ does a sense of duty and loyalty brand me a bad guy? ’ if that is the case, she has been branded far worse in her lifetime. such a simple title would be an excellent change. ‘ i imagine you have your own sense of it, and per- haps your views are skewed. my advice, little one, would be to question all you believe in. ’

he says he’s not him, but to her he is. he looks like him. he feels like him, he smells like him.
clone or not, it doesn’t matter to her, not really. when she looks at him, she sees nothing different. she thinks nothing different. it’s still the same: comfort. family.
before him, it’d been so long since she felt like that. what was supposed to be family, stability, became the cause of nightmares. the imperial military, her choices and actions- they plagued her dreams. but duty and loyalty kept her there. she lost the sense of family she once had to classmates and fellow officers. she lost sleep-filled nights and ease looking at her own reflection. in the years following callos, she simply went through the motions of her job and yet, her affiliation with the empire and with vader was her way of life. she didn’t know how to leave it behind.
she tried telling herself that she’d done the same years before callos, but it wasn’t the same. she left behind a father that hardly knew he had a daughter, and a planet she never quite found to be home. the military was the opposite. people knew who she was, and she was happy there. it should have changed as those lives were lost, but perhaps she had a foolish hope that she could make things better, that one day the empire would offer her a way to redeem herself. in a way, it did.
‘ starkiller ’ became a symbol of that hope. for her and so many more. whether or not she had an effect on him and his decision about vader and the empire, he affected hers. he showed her a way to make up for the crimes committed in her past. he showed her how to move on from the empire.
this is how she knows that it doesn’t matter. he can argue it, and she will rebute. so long as she looks at him and remembers what he has taught her -- so long as he makes her at peace with her past and at home in her new life, he is still galen marek.
