dr Nyarlathotep headcanon salad

1. The Eldritch horrors that are Time Lords don’t use “shimmers” to look humanoid, it’s just that most of their more “alien” traits (aka tentacles) are only visible in the higher dimensions.

2. This doesn’t mean their effects can’t be perceived (levitation, psychokinesis… )

3. The fourth Doctor’s love of unreasonably long scarves has definitely something to do with tentacles. Which explains the unlikely number of times his scarf “casually” got stuck in things saving him from falls etc, or the evergreen “you’re stepping on my scarf” *trips enemy and runs*

4. Which also makes that moment when Goth chops off Four’s scarf at the beginning of their fight in the Matrix (Deadly Assassin) 100% more violent (and better).

5. I have so many headcanons about Four’s tentaclescarf, ok?

5b. Omg so when the newly regenerated Five undoes the purple scarf what he’s really doing is… OMG OMG IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW!

6. I can’t remember who it was that came up with it, but i love that headcanon about the “Eldritch parts” of Time Lords getting bigger with every regeneration, until they become seriously huge. Among other things, it salvages that train wreck of a scene that is Eleven taking down a dalek ship while he regenerates on Trenzalore. Because: MILES LONG TENTACLES!

7. It is often shown (ex: Shada) that humans are somehow attracted to those abominations they can hardly perceive. Which is waaaaaaaaaaay more disturbing than them being repulsed, in a way…

8. There are WAY too few fics and fanarts in the dr nyarlathotep tag. This makes me sad panda.

'all time lords are eldritch beings' actually a statistical error. the doctor, who contains the lives of every single founder and then some, is an outlier and should not be counted

Is chaos magic a closed practice?

No, chaos magic is not a closed practice at all. Edit:  I saw this very late in the evening, so I’m out of steam, but I have a lot to say regarding the external perceptions of chaos magic and would like to clarify some things that folks within occulture seem to be a touch confused about. I’m posting this as a simple answer, as well as to remind me to come back and write a more detailed answer sometime in the near future.

The Domus Kaotica Marauder Underground, a now largely defunct magical group from 4chan who consider themselves the enemies of reality. They focus on memetic spells. They are extremely edgy.

Lolwut? I think you're mistaking DKMU for the Keks. We aren't the same thing, fucking at all.

1. We did not originate or ever operate on the chans. If you knew anything about us, you would know we are directly opposed to that cryptofascist fuckery entirely and have been since our founding. We predate 4chan.

2. We aren't dead, some of us make ourselves fairly obvious if you know what you're looking at

3. We aren't the enemies of reality, we are just in it to change reality.

4. I'll give you 'edgy', but we're a bunch of fucking chaotes. Kind of comes with the territory.

Links to our work, which has always been out in the open, and our communication hubs (discord is the most active) can be found on our website.

It's your prerogative if you want to base your understanding of what we are on someone's salty, largely misinformed opinion, but we're literally right there. The discord is public access. Come see for yourselves.

Human: Deal.
Fey: Very well. When you return home tonight, your mother will be in pristine health again. It will be like she never fell ill at all. Even the memory of her suffering will fade…
Human: Thank you so much. She means everything to me.
Fey: I know, I know. Let’s hope the price wasn’t too much for you after all… Only time will tell.
Human: So, when do we start?
Fey: …If I may ask you to elaborate?
Human: You said you wanted my firstborn.
Fey: Yes? And you agreed?
Human: Yeah, so, when do we start?
Fey:
Fey, blushing: Ah.

So good. It deserved a some art.

Right so this is on my dash again, and I’ve been struck by sudden inspiration. This is the result 🤷

Someone else in the notes named the girl Mariah, so Mariah she is. Enjoy?

-

Within nine months, their child was born.

Mariah smiled as she gazed on the babe’s sweet face, her mischievous smile and glinting eyes which shone as though she was keeping some secret from you and was waiting for you to realise it. She had all the beauty and playfulness of a fae child, but had inherited Mariah’s light eyes and dark hair. She was utterly perfect.

Mariah was loath to leave her child in such early and precious stage of her life. Her mother would surely understand and could wait, and so she decided to stay for a while. She nursed her, sang her songs, watched her grow and learn day by day. Her father would teach her the language of her native fae folk, their customs and songs and tales, and as such, Mariah learnt them too.

A month passed, followed by six months, then twelve…until years upon years upon decades had flown by, and Mariah no longer had any record of time as the mortal world measured it. Her days were filled with singing and laughter, and watching her daughter grow. She ate the food and drank the wine of the fair folk, and as such, she never grew older…and over that time, her memories grew dim and disappeared.

She forgot about how she came to be in the fairy realm, the pain and promise that had led her there. She forgot about the mother whom she had saved through the boldly struck deal in the woods. She forgot everything, save the one remnant of her old life that she had never let go of - her own name.

She wedded the fae prince, whom she loved almost as much as her daughter. She grew taller, her eyes grew brighter and her skin shone with an otherworldly glow, and she learned the ways of the fair folk in dealmaking, granting boons and trapping the mortals with cleverly woven words.

One chill autumn morning, an old woman leaning heavily on a cane wandered into the woods.

i hate how reward systems never work for me like i can’t just say “if i finish this assignment i can have a cookie” bc my brain is like “…..or u could just have one right now” and i can’t argue with that logic

Self-imposed deadlines don’t work either because I know the guy who set them and he’s full of shit

This is going around again, so I should say, I was wrong when I wrote this.

Actually, I know the girl who set them and she’s full of shit

Congrats on the gender. Get well soon with the executive dysfunction

Basically what I’m saying is “thing that moves like a distorted gif, but in meatspace” works much better than “thing with tons of tentacles” as a visual representation of cosmic horror, IMHO.

Nowadays, sure, but human depictions of cosmic ineffability are always informed by time and place. In the early days of deep-sea exploration, “thing with tons of tentacles” was the very pinnacle of “holy shit what is that”; it’s just that the symbol has aged in a way that the substance has not.

CEPHALOPODS IN 1918: horrors from the unknowable depths of blackness only made only the more horrific by animate motions suggesting a flicker of intelligence within their shapeless, fleshy coils CEPHALOPODS IN 2018: squashy frends 🐙😍

The Uncanny Valley migrates …

1918 : CEPHALOPODS

2018 : CEPHALOPODS

The thing is, I think this cycle is going to keep repeating- Once we understand things, they’re no longer frightening, so by 2118: Glitchy Friend!!

I wonder what Unspeakable Horror will be in 2118?

It was none o'clock in the morning When the dreaming’s bright and gold And the world of flesh was calling But the air outside was cold.

So I wandered the rooms that are neither there nor here That’s where I saw them dance I was young and wild and I’d never had to fear Those who hide in the hidden lands.

And the stories said, Don’t follow where they lead But the music was so good And the stories said, if they offer, don’t you eat Though they hadn’t brought no food.

And the flowery frocks they wore (for the dance) Were so pretty as they swirled around There were three or two or four (of them) And I felt like I’d been found.

So I rushed on dreaming feet back my room As the dream began to tire And I found my own pretty flowery gown Tangled in a belt of iron wire.

And the wizard says, it’s just one of their tricks But what if it was true? Yes the wise wizard says, it’s the oldest up their sleeve But I’ll never know for sure.

Two months later…

This video has triggered a sequence of events.

A musician+chaos mage friend saw it, decided i shouldn’t be left there singing unaccompained like an old-timey laundess, and instigated the acquisition of a guitar (a HUGE acoustic thing - when i saw it in the store i didn’t know the term “Dreadnought” - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreadnought_(guitar_type) ). My birthday was three days away, so my family all chipped in.

After a few week of timid attempts at figuring out how the thing worked - the day after @theprismaticdreamer ‘s ritual - i got my first lesson.

To my own surprise, i found out i’m the kind of beginner that won’t postpone the first attempts at songwriting after the “too bad to make a dime on the sub” phase. Like, at all. Performance anxiety and perfectionism induced procrastination don’t seem to affect this area, so far. Feels like i’m too busy climbing Mount Stupid atm.

I dunno if this thing will survive the “valley of despair”, and if i’ll look back at those first steps with endearment or embarassment, but here’s what’s going on so far.
