"What’s that supposed to mean?" Jacomus’ voice started to shake. "If I don’t have a soul how can I be alive?"

"You live because Jamie, your original, lives. Right now you share his soul, but when you both die, there will be nothing left of you." Death laid a hand on his shoulder. "I am sorry to tell you this, but...it is the truth."

Death. The introduction made the already pale boy even paler. “You are going to kill me, aren’t you?” He glared accusingly, or rather, helplessly. The question of his name was long forgotten.

"Oh..." Death glanced at him piteously. "Alas, no. You have no soul for me to take. When your time comes, you will never see me. You will simply...disappear."

'Would rather not have visitors? Apologies again. Am sometimes bound to stumble on places where am not supposed to be. Still, have never found self in such place as this…'

Glancing around, Sanderson fought to keep his smile small and polite. 'Am aware is rather… unorthodox way of thinking, but am truly glad for your work. Have died many times, you see? But have always come back because of magics outside my control. Do not think will come back again next time, thank stars above, but have gained great appreciation for these things.'

"I would rather not have visitors who are Guardians."

"It is nothing personal, you understand...your leader disrupts the natural order of things. His ability to return those who have died to life is disrespectful at best. I wonder if he realizes what fate he awards those who must suffer through it." Still, that was no reason to blame Sandy. The little man seemed wise to the importance of eir job, and e appreciated that.

He (or was it a she?) felt like… it wasn’t darkness, no. He knew what darkness was. Like chaos and thick shadows choking the air out of him. Like home. The person in front of him… “I thought it was rude to ask something like that before introducing yourself?” Jacomus said defiantly.

"Apologies, I do forget that at times. You may call me Death, if you wish. It is not my name, exactly, but it is what I have been named." E circled the boy curiously. "Now then, it is your turn."

'… Are Death, yes? Stars above.'

An air of vague reverence was carried along with the faint magic of the dreamsand images, suggesting their meaning to any nearby. Sanderson bowed deeply.

'Apologies for intrusion. Have heard whisperings of you many times through eons, but did not ever think would meet in person. Is an honor.'

Death was surprised, having never met the Guardian before and not knowing how he would react. "Yes, well...I am indeed Death. I trust then that you were unaware this was my domain? I suppose if that is the case, there is no harm."

Lance looked left, then he looked to his right. He would gladly help the stranger out, though he didn’t like not knowing names so he smiled and took a bow with one hand stretched out. “The name’s Lance, by the way. I never got yours…”

"Ah, a pleasure to meet you." E grasped the man's hand. "You may call me Death. It is the closest thing I have to a name."

"Well, it is not a secret at all. I am fond of all sorts of colors. I find they do wonders to cheer the air." E reached out to jingle the bell on the end of Doodle’s hat, smiling fondly. "My, but you could do such a thing without those colors, couldn’t you?"

He smiled fondly at the cheerful chime his bell sang out from her touch. “Oh yiss - juu can makes smiles and happy wonders in other ways yiss yiss! But colors es one of mah favorite ways. Colors and….music. I likies mees some music!”

"I love music! What kind of music do you usually prefer, little elf?"

Millions and millions. What did that mean?

"It was. I… came from the Warren, originally. It was a colonial warren. But after it was attacked, any of us surviving just…. fled." She had no idea why she was telling eir this much. At least, she wouldn’t mention where there hideout was, now. "…We’ve been wandering about ever since."

"So there are others of you?" Death’s brows rose in astonishment. So many missing. "My word. How extraordinary."

"Yes, there’s a few." She look at the empty space in front of her briefly, in thought. "….Missing. How are we…. missing?" Her brows furrowed a bit, and her ears raised forward just very slowly, as if cautious.

" Don't worry on that. Truly, I am overjoyed." While Death had never viewed the pookan race's extinction as inherently good or bad, there was a part of eir that was relieved to know that they still existed in the living world.

"To fear death simply because it is the unknown is folly. Life is the unknown. Love is the unknown. Yet these are considered two of the greatest things in existence." Death huffed, crossing eir arms with a pursed expression. "And to that, I agree. There must be balance in the world to maintain it. Chaos, disaster, darkness…all are necessary."

"You have a valid point. Although, in my defense, I would argue love is significantly more terrifying than death. It’s… a lot of trust to put in someone else." He gave eir an apologetic smile. "Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you. I should know better than to judge people based on what they do."

"No, it is alright. I am regrettably used to the fear. It usually fades once people see for themselves that there is nothing wrong. I suppose I cannot blame them, it is simply...frustrating." E smiled gently. "Besides, I cannot imagine that the idea of sitting still appeals to some. There are many who do not like stopping."

"But why delay?" Death asked with a frown. "Your eternal rest lays before you and yet you would deny it? For what purpose?"

To that, Sophie did not have a response. At least, not a proper one. “I’m just.. not ready. I don’t feel ready, like its something I can accept right now.”

E sighed. "I suppose I can accept that, though I do not understand it. I cannot force you to come with me; it must be of your own free will that you enter my domain. But I hope... that you reconsider waiting."

"If you want." He shrugged. "Though I am curious, before you go… What are you, that you could see right past my skin? Fae? Elven? …Or are you just some human unlucky enough to have a second sight?"

"Certainly not human or any of those other things you have mentioned. What I am…well, there is no other like me in the universe. You may call me Death."

Rothe snorted. “Right. And I’m the queen of Arkton.”

As soon as the words left his mouth he regretted it. One eyebrow raised after another. “…You’re serious, aren’t you.”

"I'll forego the obvious pun." Death smirked. "But yes, I am serious. A pleasure to meet you." E chuckled and held out a hand. "Do not be afraid, I've no intention of taking your soul today. Your time has not yet come."
