Took me until about halfway through college before I realized “study” means “play with the material in a variety of ways until you understand it” and not just “read the assigned chapters and do the homework” and I think that probably should have been discussed at some point prior to that.

Not to be a fucking nerd or anything but that site is super helpful!! And so is Unpaywall which will search for a free version of the paper for you AND it’s super fun when you have a genuine interest in the topic!
Also, whether you’re reading and writing academic papers or not, it’s 100% okay to be a nerd!
Not to be a fucking nerd or anything but a lot of the time you can just email the authors of academic papers and they’ll email you a free copy because they make no money from those paywalls, only the journals, and they’re super fun to read when you have a genuine interest in the topic!
