Keep in mind that time is a restrictor when it comes to animating as well. The roosterteeth animators are juggling animating RWBY, RvB, and now X-Ray and Vav. They had to learn on the go with poser, which is why rwby's animation was subpar in the first season. It was probably the easiest to learn, so poser is what the went with. They take the time to animate the fights by hand because Monty is best known for and takes pride in his fighting animations.
