Nick doesn’t even look he knows what just happened, all he knows is he’s standing there, looking at the love of his life with tears in her eyes and a broken heart and he let her slip through his fingers. He shakes his head almost as though he’s denying any feeling, because if he feels he’s terrified that he’ll never be able to stop feeling.

Jess was good at doing that to him. The man who once never allowed a feeling absorb into any fibre of his being now felt pain so extensive that it confuses and drains him. She taught him to be open and honest, she helped him to grow in himself and learn that feeling is okay. She is the reason he is crying, but for two totally different reasons, each equally heartbreaking in their own malevolent way.

This was what he’d expected from the universe, what everyone told him he would be. He could be helped, but never repaired. He believed that until he met Jess, but the universe had a funny way of coming back around to bite you in the ass. He was helped, but he was not fixed. He was still broken, just a little, and now that stupid side to him that no one could ever fix lost him the love of his life. He didn’t deserve her, he wasn’t good enough for her, and now his fears have been confirmed, just by the tears in her eyes and the flush in her cheeks. This was it, he lost her. He lost everything he held dear. 

I love you Sophie.

I can’t watch Nick cry, it hurts my soul. He will win her back. They are meant to be together.

I would love this. They’re honestly my brotp, I love how comfortable they are talking straight with each other and I think this would be a really important (and really sweet) conversation for them to have.
