Eunha smiles looking over at her unnie. She closed the book her finger holding the page she was currently on. On the front of the black book the words were written in gold ‘Your soul is a river’ with a trail of stars. It was quite pretty and what had drawn her to the book in the first place. Usually she was not into poetry but recently she had been drawn to it. The pretty way people had with words. She envied the talent that they had. “It’s a book called a river flows in you from an american poet called Nikiita Gill or she might not be American I assume she is though..” She shrugs opening the book to the page that she left on. “I was finishing this page right here, I’ll read it to you.”
“My darling, he is just a boy.” She begins in a solemn tone. “How can he possibly begin to appreciate the constellations you leave in your wake, or the stardust in your bones, when he has yet to realize just what it means to be in love with a girl like you?” She ended the poem looking up at her unnie once again. “It’s nice right? I thought you might like her so I bought two of these books. One for you annnd me!”
Minha was taken with, not only the way Eunha’s velvet voice read the text with the right amount of pauses and serenity but with the poem itself. It was poems like this that always seemed to resonate with her. She was already aware of her (one of her) Achilles’ heels--how she always seemed to romanticize the past, to the point that she wants to look into a mirror and scoff at herself. She was a woman of an array of thoughts that occur simultaneously, maybe that was why people regard her as an airhead at first glance, so she just stared blankly at the black hardcover before she finally registered the object and let a gasp escape her pink tinted lips.
She took the book from the younger cautiously, fingers tracing over the golden letters, marveling at the book before looking up at Eunha with bright eyes and a smile so wide she felt her cheeks hurt. But who could really blame her? The fact that Eunha thought of her already made her feel warm--as if she had been nursing a cup of her favorite peach tea during a cold rainy night. But, even though Minha and Eunha have known each other for quite some time, the fact that she would purchase a book for her made her eyes crinkle--because its the little things that people do and remember about you is one of the things that Minha always appreciated. But really, it was a book that Eunha enjoyed--which was enough for Minha to want to finish the text in one sitting. What Minha loved most was to get to know more about the people in her life, what intrigued them at the moment whether it be a song they recently fell in love with, a game, or a book. Minha quickly flopped on the other’s lap, her soft laugh filling up the room before reaching up and tickling Eunha’s chin--hoping to elicit a laugh from her as well. ❝Have I told you I loved you today? Because really I do you ray of sunshine. And thank you so much--really.❞ She stressed the last word, hoping Eunha knew just how much she appreciated her action...and her really. And here she goes...Minha began sniffling, but wanting to let her eyes begin to well up she placed the book over her face before snickering quietly. ❝So is this the beginning of our own book club?❞
