This is my official goodbye to the Mori community, it’s been a while since I’ve worn it and over the years I’ve become more interested in different styles. I am also trying to revive my Blogger (with the same name) into a personal lifestyle blog so I have more freedom to share what’s on my mind.

I’d like to say how wonderful the community is and how much it’s affected my sense of identity. I am forever grateful to this lovely international group that is so kind, supportive, and wholesome.

This means this tumblr won’t be active—if I do return to tumblr, it will be on my personal one, anyotherwayofloving—and my Blogger, The Plant That Never Blooms, will morph into an all-encompassing lifestyle journal and blog.

Thank you again for such a wonderful experience in the Mori community.

With love and gratitude, Trista

About Hama Girls and Boys

Hama girls and boys are enchanted children of the sea. They dream of being abandoned on a deserted beach, but have no way of taking care of themselves. Maybe build a shelter out of driftwood, maybe a sailing ship will rescue them, maybe the seagulls will drop food for them. They have an overwhelming love and faith in the sea and are only at peace when the ocean waves are lapping at their bare feet and ankles.

Everything about the sea mystified them– pearls, sunken ships, pirates, submarines, mermaids, octopus, icebergs, seaweed, messages in bottles……. and they love stories about being stranded on a desert island and legends of the sea.

This love for the sea often comes of being land-locked away, far far away. And so, the ocean grows in mystery more and more. Hama girls and boys like to wear sea stripes, and light beiges and whites and the colors of sea foam and sea glass. They prefer going barefoot, but settle for beach or boat canvas shoes. They especially like the idea of living in a lighthouse or a little beach shack. More often than not, you will find hama-children on chilly, vintage coastlines like Maine or England. Old fashioned fishing culture, and the melancholy of cold sea ports attracts them since loving the ocean is a type of sad, unrequited love best dreamed about under stormy skies. Since this is so sad, they often cover it up by being the most child-like of all Mori-types and run and play and collect seashells and spy for boats on the horizon, and pretend to be pirates, and talk to seagulls and crows and dream of someday sailing the seven seas under full sail!

And every time they have to leave the beach, their hearts break, but they stand tall and smile through their tears and tell the ocean they’ll be back…… someday. And pray that it comes true, and that they didn’t just tell a lie. It must come true! It has to.
