     ❝But why not!? Please, P L E A S E  Lapis, I thought we were Beach Summer Fun Buddies! Why won’t you let us help you?!❞ Steven pleaded at the gem with a shaky voice, knowing Jasper could appear at any given moment.

Connie chuckled a bit as she saw him run toward her, closing the book carefully as she did. Her eyes focused upward on him, a bit worried as he huffed for air. Though, he definitely sounded exciting about something. She nodded, listening intently as he told the story of one of his amazing, magical adventures. 

              ❝That sounds amazing Steven, you’re ok, right?❞

He looked alright, but she just wanted to make sure, maybe it was just because he was practically wheezing in front of her. As he asked about the novel in her hand, she glanced down at it, nodding quickly.

              ❝Yeah! It’s absolutely great! It’s called ‘Gone’, and it’s                   about this boy, who wakes up and finds that most of                   the adults in his town have disappeared!❞

      As Steven rolled over for his eyes to meet his best friend’s, he replied ❝Don’t worry, I’m f-fine, just o-out of breath.❞ Steven listened as she explained  the book. He nodded his head and said ❝Wow! That seems really good! Do you mind if I borrow it when you’re done?❞

                    Steven decided to fix his lousy posture and slanted up next to Connie. 

    ❝ How old would you need to be before you’re an adult? What if you become the age to be an adult right after all the adults are taken away? Would you be free? ❞  Steven asked, as if Connie knew the answer.

               ❝Steven?❞

Connie blinked a bit as she looked up, her book tight in her hands as she thought she heard him… Was she just mistaken?

    ❝Connie!❞ Steven forced out of his empty lungs. ❝T-there, you are! ❞  He wheezed and dropped down next to her. 

    ❝I-I just got back, with the gems f-from the coolest mission.....e-ever! There was this g-giant monster thing and it w-was all like pew pew and s-shot these weird beams at us and Garnet w-was all like ‘Steven we need to run’ and s-so we ran around it a-and then, Pearl and Amethyst came from different directions t-to confuse it and Garnet destroyed it! ❞ Steven explained this all in one wheezed breath. After breathing in a few times he asked  ❝What are you reading? Is it good? ❞
