Black Canary (Dinah Drake) Comic/Reading List! (for our 1 Year Anniversary)

I love Dinah Drake and I decided it was time to make a Dinah Drake reading list, so all of you can enjoy her and read more about her yourself! [[Don’t be afraid to let me know if I got any wrong or need to add more!]]

history (post-crisis):

Dinah Drake was the daughter of a Police Officer, Richard Drake. Dinah grew up being very close with her father. He taught her police training to learn how to fight, so that one day, she too could become a police officer like he was. When Dinah grew up, she applied for the Gotham Police Academy. Weeks later, her application was rejected, because the few policewomen’s positions were already filled. Richard later died of a heart attack. After her father past and her not being able to become a police woman, she realized she still wanted to honor her father. Being inspired by mystery men like “the flash”, “green lantern” and others, Dinah Drake became the first Black Canary! She first masked herself as a criminal, taking down other criminals from the inside. She even opened a florist’s shop (Sherwood Florist) to conceal her identity as Black Canary. She eventually crossed paths with Johnny Thunder, becoming partners for a time. When Johnny left the Justice Society Of America, Dinah Drake took his place as Black Canary (being the fist non-meta/non-powered to be a member of the JSA). Later on, her and her (now private detective) boyfriend - Larry Lance - married and started their own private detective company (Lance & Lance investigators). They bought a home together, and shortly after, gave birth to Dinah Laurel Lance. Years later, while both Dinah’s were on a mission, Larry died saving Dinah Drake (and their daughter) from an alien entity that could have destroyed the world. Decades later, Dinah Drake died due to long radiation exposure. Secret Origins #50

(Under the cut is a list of comics you can find her in!)

This was a fun episode!

Boys. This is very dramatic for a competition for favorite uncle at a carnival.

I love how Roy is so clearly concerned and like "you OK there?" while Jason is so mad at the possibility of Dick beating him in this competition.

Aaaaaw.

Such a juxtaposition - Roy peacefully buckling Lian in and Jason and Dick arguing like cats and dogs in the background.

AHFJFDKJFHDK IT WAS INTENTIONAL the star eyes are amazing.

Love how they don't even care they've been played they're still like "OK but who is the favorite though"

Aaaand a fistfight at the end. Love how Roy is facepalming and Lian is clearly finding this HILARIOUS.

i think everyone has a version of gotham in their heads and i want to slowly draw mine...starting off with one of jason's safe houses.

in the comics it's super clean and modern but in my mind it's a bit industrial too. and no way it's going to be that neat if roy crashes there from time to time - i've seen how roy lives, i don't think he knows how to clean

ps: I love to think that in this UA they are not vigilant so that every time Tim hangs on stage Bruce will have a heart attack hahahahah
