hey coach, sorry we cannibalized your team captain. in our defense, her pregnant gf said that's what she wanted and we are running out of meat rations and our developing bodies need nourishment. no, I get that it was absolutely terrifying to witness teenagers devour their former leader who was a symbol for societal expectation so voraciously and with such excitement, but you gotta understand we're hungry and the wilderness slow-roasted her to perfection. also you're probably next. xo.

Man, this was staring me right in my face, but Usher's critique of people who sell their children's future for a more luxurious present isn't just like, the stuff of fairytales and bartering your first born to Rumplestiltskin.... it's literally what capitalists actually do.

Plenty of them *KNOW* what they're peddling is harmful, but their various poisons are slow acting enough that many of them figured THEY wouldn't have to reckon with the consequences in their lifetime ... no, leave that to burden the next generation with.

Verna to:

Perry: You sure you wanna use the sprinklers?

Camille: Don’t go see the chimps

Leo: That cat’s not available

Vic: Maybe it’s too soon for human trials

Tamerlane: You should really take a nap

Fredrick: Fuck you

The Fall of the House of Usher is many things and I'm making a conscious choice to not scream about every single one of them rn, but what left me staring at a wall in tears is just... kindness. Death was kind. She gave every choice, every reason to stop. She would take these kids anyway but she also regretted having to take them like that. She cared when nobody else would, even though they kept making the wrong choices.

She's never cruel for cruelty's sake. She wasn't cruel to Lenore. She just sent a child to sleep as lovingly as she could, with kind words and kinder touch.

And I don't even know how to express the absolute heartbreak with blinding warmth among the cracks, when Death herself kneels before one man, worst man, honest man, who refused her offer – and thanks him with such respect.

Mike Flanagan, you fucking did it again. Carla Gugino, you... I don't even have words for you. That's a whole-ass masterpiece of human soul, meaning, and searching right there.

Kiss Death with kindness in the end
And when she parts
You part as friends
