So many situations in movies where there’s something scary happening and the women are in hysterics but the men are completely calm.. doesn’t seem realistic at all

The gothic romance aesthetic:

a dark billowing coat, the smell of orange blossoms on a summers night, lace trimming on a nightgown, shuttered windows, a rotting wooden bench concealed beneath a willow tree, a hidden staircase lit by candlelight

If u want an example of how internalized the hetero narrative is in fiction

I started working on a story five years ago (largely it’s been on the back burner) and every time I came back to it it just didn’t feel quite right or ready and what I figured out was really bothering me was the romance.

The romance definitely wasn’t critical to the plot but I did want to have it as an underlying thing and I did love the male love interest as a character but it still wasn’t right

And finally my sister was like “why is he even in the story? Why isn’t the main character ending up with her [female] best friend who is way more plot important and whom she clearly loves?”

And I was like…..incredible.

I was so focused on the YA/new adult romance formula it never even occurred to me.

It fixed everything.

I’m a whole entire lesbian.

Me: damn I wish there were more lesbian representation in fiction

Brie: hey did you know you’re unintentionally ignoring what is clearly a lesbian couple in your own book

Me: : O

Gonna tell y’all what I can hear now that I got my hearing aids

Birds! They chirp and it’s so beautiful.

Far away cow moos

My friend has this is his back yard and to say I cried is an understatement.

My best friends singing voice

Chickens: *chicken noise*

Me, sobbing:

The filter for my fish tank! Bubble bubble bubble

I sit in the bass section in band. Today I could clearly hear the flutes up at the front! They’re not great, but I can finally hear them!

Op this is so pure and I’m happy for you

Yeah they’re cute, but do they:

  • Respect you?
  • Do they value you?
  • Are they capable of deep empathy and communication?
  • Do they seek to understand?
  • Do they love themselves?
  • Are they a positive influence on your life?
  • Do they support you and your decisions?
  • Do they take actions to show they care?
  • Would they stick by your side during a crisis?
