“Teräsbetoni’s 2008 performance is criminally underrated.”

They actually came to Malta back then for the promo tour. I left a comment on their guestbook and they mentioned it in an interview :D

Why I am happy with Mahmood and the song “Soldi” winning Sanremo Music Festival 2019

  1. First and foremost, the song is great! It has a great rhythm and it also has a story behind it. It speaks about the rough relationship between the singer and his dad.
  2. The song is something different, and not the usual pop/ballads that are most commonly associated with such song contests. It is modern and very well produced. I also think that it will also be something particular at Eurovision.
  3. I quite like Mahmood, so far. He seems to be very humble. He also didn’t expect to win, as his reaction when his win was announced suggests. I also didn’t expect him to win, even though “Soldi” was my favourite since the first night.
  4. Mahmood shares both my name, Alessandro and my birth year, 1992.
  5. Mahmood, despite being quite young, is very talented.
  6. Mahmood is (most probably) gay, therefore I believe that he represents the variety that exists within the gay community quite well and he can also serve as a message for people who think that gay men have to always fit certain stereotypes.
  7. Mahmood is 100% Italian but has an Egyptian father. I think that his heritage also contributes to how he sings, as there are parts of “Soldi” which recall oriental sounds.
  8. Him winning is a big blow to Matteo Salvini and other racists, both those in Italy and abroad. A lot of these people are commenting quite negatively about Mahmood, saying that he is not Italian. However, Mahmood was born in Milan and his mum is Sardinian. Last year, Ermal Meta, who was born and raised in Albania, won the festival with Fabrizio Moro, and there wasn’t this amount of hate going around. Just to be clear, I am quite fond of Ermal too, but I cannot understand why some people discriminate about a person of a certain origin and not the other.
  9. Although I liked Ultimo’s song this year, after what he did after Mahmood’s victory I am happy that he did not win even more. He was quite rude because he did not win this time, despite winning with the same system last year in the youth section of the festival. I really despise people who always want things to go their way and so I think that Ultimo has to learn a lesson.
