2010s Black Tumblr didn't die organically. It was killed. Not just by staff, not just by the porn ban, but by the white userbase as well. Black bloggers were (and still are) being mass-reported and harassed off the platform constantly. White Tumblr users would post gore in problack tags, racefake left and right in Black people's askbox, pick random AAVE to call racist/misogynistic/transphobic, etc then get the Black people who were nice enough to explain what it means to them mass reported for harassment, the list goes on.
#yeah people forget the black community on tumblr was once so visible and massive we had Events#the blackout has p much been forgotten#the popular aesthetic blogs that created things like the art hoe movement are GONE#black tumblr is still here its just suppressed by unbearable whiteness#thats why we all get genuinely annoyed by your silly little polls and posts proclaiming loudly that you dont know donna summer.#or james baldwin#black people had a very active and connected community here once with its own subcultures and we were sundown towned out

Remembered a time when #Blackout was going strong. Not only did yt folks tried to start some "Whiteout" trend (they weren't even good looking...), but folks who were not blk were desperately trying to post themselves into #Blackout posts. I distinctly remember this one woman who was and she was getting SO irritated that NO one reposted from her or entertained her. She was going around different threads trying to post herself.
Like...why was it so important to disrupt what blk folks were doing?
White people were always trying out the silliness forms of racism. So silly that we could have a full week of fun and mockery. Academic, informative reads. And straight up dragging through the mud. Like if the person who said they found the origin of “rest in power” via wiki did that back in the day, there would be #whiteresearchers jokes that would span across tumblr and twitter, which would eventually be picked up as a story on Fox News.
