a gap that divides
like him a little, or like him a lot, there’s always a pang that comes with the thought of the times we both spent taking foot on the streets, exploring his city, or stopping to eat.
he showed me the pieces of the world that he knew. to be curious, and ask questions, like all was brand new.
he made sure not to take my heart for his keeping, but plucked a few strings I could trust with safekeeping.
however…
there happens to be a gap that divides our holding of hands and kisses goodbye.
it may be the distance, or lives that we live that cannot control the time that we give.
but all we can do is all that we can. make no expectations of this sweet, young man.
I think we will meet again in his city. we’ll walk through the streets that look worn and gritty.
I think that there is a lot I would do just to see him again and his life that’s ensued on after the choice: we can only be friends. it’s just sometimes how the heart has to mend.
