Announcing Want for iOS

Today we're pleased to announce Want, an all new publication for iOS. Want is a daily catalog of the best products on Svpply, personalized to your tastes. It's brief. It's not an endless stream of stuff, it's a shortlist of great products. It listens to what you add to your Svpply and sends you even better products the next day. And it's transient. It's a "get it while it's hot" sort of publication; there are no back issues.

Download Want, set it to be delivered during your morning cup of coffee, and let us know what you think after a few weeks. It's become a highlight of our daily routines and we hope it'll be the same for you.

eBay Inc. Acquires Svpply

We created Svpply three years ago with the goal of creating a unified online retail shopping experience by bringing shoppers, tastemakers and merchants onto a single site. Today, we couldn’t be happier to announce that we’ve been acquired by eBay Inc.

One thing we do want to make clear: Svpply is not going away. We’ll continue to bring our users new products each day -- allowing our loyal fans to explore beautiful products and stores, all of them hand selected by the community.

Our talented team will help eBay expand its focus on merchandising, discovery and browsing. Together, we’ll work to create improved and personalized experiences and merchandising options for eBay.com.

We’re excited to join the eBay and Hunch teams in the new state-of-the-art technology development center in New York City!

Continue to check back here for updates to hear more about our upcoming projects.

HUSH: A gilded, silent disco

Svpply team is heading to HUSH, Gawker's 3rd annual silent disco, at the library this week. Yeasayer and Das Racist will be spinning tunes through specially designed wireless headsets given to attendees at the door. The dress code is gilded, so we've created a gold, silver, black and white collection to match.

We hope to see you there!

Window Shopping From West To East

Today we're excited to announce Svpply.com's new Store Explorer to compliment the iPhone and iPad Explorers we launched last week. It shows you all of the best stores on a map and it's a great way to find cool new shops nearby or in 21 cities across the globe. For instance, you might stumble upon Steven Alan here in NYC:

To celebrate, we asked the intrepid Courtney Lewis, longtime Svpply stalwart and editor of Tydepool, to take a trip around the world in search of native products. Here's what she came back with, puddle-jumping from West to East.

San Francisco CA, USA - (explore) Candystore Collective, Jade Soap Rocks ($13) "Mission boutique Candystore Collective began as a pop-up shop in 2004 and has since established itself as one of the best places around to get goods from small, independent designers."

Los Angeles CA, USA - (explore) Baxter Of California, California Candle ($30) "Angelino Baxter Finley is known as the unsung hero of men's grooming. Around since the 1960s, the company recently introduced a series of collaborations with like minded brands Saturdays NYC, Unionmade, and Colette (seen above)."

Austin TX, USA - (explore) Kickpleat, Mismatched Triangle Studs ($342) "This unassuming shop can be better stocked than the best indie boutiques in NYC. Bonus, you can get a taste of the Austin art scene while you shop."

New York City NY, USA - (explore) Barneys NYC, Backgammon Set ($795)  "Barney Pressman pawned his wife's engagement ring to lease his first 500 square foot store in 1923. Cut to 2012 and this place is a New York institution."

Boston MA, USA - (explore) The Tannery, Clarks Ashcott ($120) "A Boston mini chain, The Tannery's multistory Harvard Square flagship is a serious shoe mecca."

London, England - (explore) Lazy Oaf, Peakaboo Sweatshirt (£45)  "East London Lazy Oaf is famous for its quirky, illustrated tees that are all designed in house."

Paris, France - (explore) A.P.C., Sac Bandoulière Léopard €95  "French brand A.P.C. is the pinacle of simple, cool kid fashion. This is the kind of stuff you can wear forever."

Tokyo, Japan - (explore) Rumors, アボード F2A (¥13440) "Accessories, apparel, home goods, I got lost window shopping Tokyo based Rumors for hours. Want. it. all."

Sydney, Australia - (explore) Ksubi, Sleeveless Shirt $A59.95  "One of the most famous Aussie brands, Ksubi has a full on international cult following. While they started with a perfect pair of jeans, their ready-to-wear, like the top above, has become just as good."

Window Shop the World with our Store Explorer

Today we’re launching an exciting new iOS feature: Store Explorer. Store Explorer finds the best stores in your city and lets you window shop them from your iPhone or iPad. It’s a great way to discover new shops and browse their styles before stopping by in person. And once you’ve explored the stores nearby, you can jump to cities all across the world to wander their streets and see which trends are on the rise.

To get started, download the update from the App Store. If you’re an iPad user, tap the new “Stores” tab on the left. If you’re an iPhone user, visit the “Shop” section and tap the compass arrow in the top right corner.

We’re still adding cities (it’s hard work finding great places to shop!) so if you don’t find anything in your area don’t fret. We’ll scour your streets in the next week or so. In the mean time, drop by New York and take a look at the fantastic stores near our office in SoHo.

Svpply now for the iPad

We're pleased to announce that Svpply is now available as an iPad app!

The new app makes it easy to explore page after page of beautiful products and stores, hand selected by you guys, our community. If you get lost in the experience, (which we hope you do), a tap of the History button reveals a unique browsing history, fanned out like the pages of a catalog, making it easy to jump back.

It's a universal app so if you already have the Svpply app on your iPhone, all you need to do is run the latest update on your iPad.

Let us know if you’ve got any suggestions, we’ll be watching Twitter and Tumblr closely in the coming weeks.

New Svpply API!

We’re excited to announce that our API is live and available for your use! Want to build your own shopping iPad app? You can do that. Want to build a website devoted to blue shoes? You can do that too.

This past week we handed the keys of the API over to the guys at OKFocus, the studio behind WhoDat.biz and LemmeTweetThatForYou.com. We asked them to have fun with it, and they didn't disappoint:

Tug of Store - "A real time game where coolness is decided democratically". Tug of Store runs off our new API, which also drives Svpply.com and our forthcoming iPhone app. Some of the API's features:

  • 1.2 million products
  • Full OAuth support
  • 3,000 new products a day
  • 70,000 Stores
  • 40,000 Collections

There's a new landing page for all API-related content: developer.svpply.com. Drop by our terms before you get started. If you have any questions or want to write in with comments, send us a message at api@svpply.com.

Happy building!
