I’m reading Wayward Son right now and it has inspired me to dig out all the sequences I sketched out from Carry On. Hoping to finish them all in the next few months! (And then proceed onto some Wayward Son art :O )

So if you follow my side-blog, @penelopes-place, you’ll know that I’ve been having way too much fun watching these role-play accounts fall for each other via flirtatious and angsty tumblr exchanges (which is why I put smartphones in the picture). When I found out these two lovebirds happen to like my art, well… I didn’t really need an excuse to draw something at that point so I did it anyway. lol The above art specifically refers to this particularly lovely exchange.

If you’re like me, you read this part of Carry On and thought, “THIS was the guy who gives awkward hugs?” Because despite being starved of love his whole life, Simon clearly knows how to do affection. I think he just saves it for Baz, is all. 

(Also, I generally imagine that, if the sun is creeping up here, they probably got somewhat -*ahem*- feverish in their make-out session. Hence, missing jumper and buttons undone. I dunno. I could be wrong…)

Sure Simon, he is plotting.

This took me so long and I thought I wouldn’t be able to post on time, but thankfully I did.

I drew this for the kind and talented  @carryonsimoncarryonbaz​, who imagined this moment happening between the epilogue segments of Carry On. CSCB had found me in September on Twitter and was among the most persuasive voices to get me onto Tumblr, and when I finally started posting here, she reached out to chat and became an instant friend. 

One of the first things she did was share a touching and romantic fanfic she was working on titled “You Make Me Feel Like I Am Home Again,” in which Simon and Baz spend one last night together on the Watford grounds (and later in Mummer’s House) after the leavers ball. I was so touched to be welcomed so warmly to fandom and get a sneak peek at this beautifully written and heartfelt fanfic, I was inspired to draw an image from it.

A Thanksgiving gift from me to you. Of the many things I’m thankful for, I’m so grateful to have discovered @rainbowrowell’s Carry On and this amazing community. I hope you enjoy this series. It feels a bit personal for me, as there’s a bit of me in every expression on the page. So consider yourself seduced. ;)

Title: “Cross Every Line”

Description: The final scene of Chapter 64 from Carry On, in which Baz resists Simon - to no avail.

About the Art: I tried to use the sentence “I’d cross every line for him” as inspiration for this series. Throughout the comic, you’ll notice Baz’s inner monologue slicing through the panels as a means to demonstrate the power of Baz’s feelings for Simon against Baz’s facade. Hence, his thoughts cross lines all over the place. The panels themselves eventually succumb to this motif, with his memories of the night before cutting in so dramatically, they take up the bulk of the spread. The final spread pushes this theme to a resolution as Simon and Baz’s embrace is splayed across two panels, ending with both of them sharing the final panel together - and unlike all the other monologue boxes, which cut into the panels, Baz’s declaration of love is smack in the panel beside them.

I made sure to chronicle this process, so I hope to have that to share with you guys next week. Also, I know there are asks waiting in my inbox - I promise to get to them soon. :)

At long last, “Nobody’s Seducing a Vampire” is complete! Seems like a fitting way to celebrate the news that Wayward Son is going to be hitting shelves a year sooner! (WOO!) 

When it came to getting requests for doing another comic format scene from @rainbowrowell‘s Carry On, this was far and away the most requested scene, and I tried really hard to do it justice. I feel like I spent the better part of a month and a half making faces in the mirror for this one. Now that it’s done, I can say it was a fun break from my norm to draw Baz in his snarky element. :) 

Anyway, thanks so much to everyone who requested this one. I hope it hits the mark. <3 

PS: At some point, when I wasn’t looking, my blog traversed 2000 followers. I am legit stunned. Thanks so much for being here, everyone. <3

I have an undying love for these guys and their friendship so here´s a very messy sketch I coloured! Still feel a little rusty after such a long art break but we´ll get there eventually

this is actually super old but I never uploaded it because I wasn´t happy (hah!) with how it looked. But since I haven´t posted anything new lately I thought I´d give you this little treat! (I´m sorry.)

I have tears in my eyes oh my

Sorry this is so enormous and likely clogging up your feed this morning. Before I forget, ”No one’s seducing a vampire” is still in production. It’s definitely a difficult adaptation (hello 12 panels of victorian bedroom), so it’ll be a while yet before I’m finished with that one. But anyhoo…

About the art: Chapter 62 was the second most requested portion of Carry On for adaptation into a graphic novel format. However, rather than pull swaths of text from the chapter, I decided to zero in on one little snippet:

Given how Simon had used the cross earlier in the novel to drive separation between him and Baz, I like to think that taking it off himself was, in part, a romantic gesture - a symbolic dismantling of that last wall between them. 

That said, artistically, I tried to evoke the sensation of falling in love. For this reason, I largely left words out of it and tried to render the format in a way that makes it feel like you’re… descending. The colors deepen. The panels get smaller. And the last page shows Simon and Baz falling into each other’s arms out of frame, with flames dominating the end shot. (*wink* See what I did there?)

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I loved drawing it. <3

PS: Baz’s hair is based on my husband’s when we were married. It’s short now, but I can live vicariously through Simon for a bit…

I was going to wait to post this tomorrow and work on commissions today instead, but my whole house is sick with a mystery fever, and I need a pick-me-up. 

I’ve never done a prom scene, but this was a lot of fun for all the lighting and depth of field effects. Someone mentioned in a reblog that they like seeing the process, so at some point, I’ll put up the various layers of this so folks can see how it came together. 

For those who are curious about the process, here’s a little animated gif of all the layers that comprise the finished image. 

NOTE: It takes a major leap between steps 4 and 5 (ie. it goes from no detail to ALL the detail) because there are a actually bunch of detail layers where I revise some poses, change facial expressions, shift some positions, and generally make additional tweaks to balance the image, and I eventually merged them just to keep things tidy. But after that leap, you’ll notice some multiply, screen, and color burn layers to burnish and brighten and establish greater contrast to bring Simon and Baz into the foreground while pushing everyone else further behind them. Ultimately, the last thing I do is adjust the color, clean up, smooth out, and sign that sucker. :) 

Getting this in just under the wire! Carry On turns 3 years old today, and to celebrate the book and it’s wonderful writer, @rainbowrowell, here is the winner of the poll: Baz makes his entrance. :)
