Today is Toga's birthday! So I'm finally drawing her again to celebrate! XD On another note, if I made these into buttons, would people be interested? And who else would you like to see me draw for buttons? This is the first piece I've been so proud of that I'd consider turning it into a button so hopefully I can make a lot more going forward!

Sea Salt Ice Cream Recipe!

Friends wanted me to share my Sea Salt Ice Cream Recipe, soooo here it is! (With all my little side notes from an adorable 18 year old me!)

Firstly, I’m not gonna lie, this will take you 1-2 hours to make the ice cream batter. Then it’ll take another 2-4 hours to freeze (that is if you’re using the Ice-pop molds. I’m not quite sure how long an Ice-cream maker takes)

Okay now first off you’re going to need to get the stuff to make your Ice-cream. The equipment (bowls and such) can probably be found in the cabinets in your kitchen.

Equipment:

  • Wire Whisk (if you don’t have one of these don’t worry, a Fork will work just fine)
  • Wooden Spoon (you MUST have a wooden or plastic spoon! Metal is bad and will probably cause you to curdle the milk)
  • Ladle (if you don’t have one then a big spoon or something like that will do just fine)
  • Medium Size Saucepan
  • Medium Size Bowl1
  • Cup Liquid Measure
  • 1 Cup Dry Ingredient Measure
  • Ice-cream Maker OR Ice-pop Molds OR Lidded Bowl

Ingredients:

  • 2 Eggs (Large Eggs work better)
  • 1 Cup of Vitamin D/Whole Milk
  • 1 Cup of Sugar
  • 1 Cup of Heavy Cream
  • 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
  • Sea Salt
  • Blue and Green Food Coloring (This is just for the original Kingdom Hearts look, otherwise you can make it any color you’d like)

Instructions:

  • Crack 2 Eggs into the bowl and whisk well for a few minutes.
  • Add the cup of sugar into the eggs and whisk well until its creamy.
  • Heat the milk in the saucepan over medium heat until warmish hot while constantly stirring with the wooden spoon (DON’T use a metal spoon! It will heat the milk too fast which will make it curdle!) The milk should be right before boiling, but don’t let it boil because it might curdle and you’ll have to start all over again (which will suck! XD)
  • Add the Egg/Sugar Mix into the pan of Warm Milk and heat over Medium to Low hear until it has the consistency of thin pudding. It may boil a bit, so if it does, reduce the heat and keep stirring until you get the thin pudding feel (you may have to let it sit over the heat for a min or so without stirring it so it‘ll thicken).
  • If you want richer Ice-cream add more sugar NOW! Don’t go too crazy with extra sugar. An extra table spoon or 2 is good!
  • Remove saucepan from heat and pour the thin pudding mix into a bowl and set it in the fridge to cool. (DON’T put it in the Freezer to make it cool faster! IT DOESN’T WORK… Trust me).
  • Once the mixture has cooled to room temperature or below, take it out of the fridge and add the heavy cream and vanilla. Stir well for a minute or so. (For richer Ice-cream add more vanilla, I wouldn’t add more than 1 extra teaspoon)
  • Add Sea Salt a little at a time and taste until you have a slightly salty but sweet flavor. (Everyone’s different so if you like it salty add more salt, if you don’t really care for much salt then don’t add as much). I add about 1 and 1/4 teaspoons!
  • Now add the food coloring. To get the traditional Sea Blue color use about 12-14 drops of blue (You don’t really have to add green because the batter has a yellowish color to it so after you add the blue it should give you a perfect Sea Blue color. But if you want to add Green to it 1-2 drops would do just fine).

Now for the freezing methods. There are multiple ways to freeze your Ice-cream. I’ll list all of them, you can either pick the one you like best, or try them all. Either way you freeze it the Ice-cream turns out AMAZING! I suggest trying them all and finding the one you like best :D

Freezing Methods:

  • Ice-Pop Method:(This is the simplest of the methods, and will give you the traditional Kingdom Hearts Style Ice-cream pops). This is where the Ladle or big spoon comes in. Get your Liquid Measuring Cup and ladle the mixture into it, this way you can just pour the mixture from the Measuring Cup into the Ice-pop Molds. Then put the molds into the freezer and let sit for 2-4 hours (this may take longer depending on your freezer). Once they’re done you should have nice soft Ice-cream pops.
  • The Ice-cream Maker Method: Simply turn the ice cream maker on and pour your concoction in and let it run from 1-2 hours. You will have to wait longer than normal for sea salt ice-cream to freeze because the salt lowers the freezing temperature. After it has thickened, place it in a storage container and put it in the freezer to freeze.
  • The Ghetto Fabulous Way:Simply put the mixture into a container and stick it in the freezer. This will create a somewhat hard, brick-ish Ice-cream, but it still tastes amazing and you can scrape it out and put it in a bowl all the same.

The freezing methods I tend to use are both the Ice-pop Method and The Ghetto Fabulous Way. Only because I end up with a little extra batter (about a small bowl full) after pouring the mix into the molds. And I can say that the Ghetto Fabulous Way tastes good too. You can just eat it from the bowl, it’s not that hard, and it still tastes great. Well anyway for those of you that wanted the recipe, there it is :D. When you make your Sea Salt Ice-cream be sure to give me feedback, and pictures would be greatly appreciated as well. Hope your Ice-cream turns out good and if you have any questions I suggest asking me before you make your it so I can tell you what to do. Good Luck Cooking :D
