Spain was still a fascist dictatorship when Microsoft was founded.

There were no classes in calculus in Harvard’s curriculum for the first few years because calculus hadn’t been discovered yet.

Two empires [Roman & Ottoman] spanned the entire gap from Jesus to Babe Ruth.

When the pyramids were being built, there were still woolly mammoths.

The last use of the guillotine was in France the same year Star Wars came out.

Oxford University was over 300 years old when the Aztec Empire was founded.

Pablo Picasso died the year Pink Floyd released “Dark Side of the Moon” (1973)

Prisoners began to arrive to Auschwitz a few days after Mc'Donalds was founded.

Coca-Cola is only 31 years younger than Italy.

Marilyn Monroe and Queen Elizabeth II were born in the same year.

The Ottoman empire still existed the last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series.

The first wagon train of the Oregon Trail heads out the same year the fax machine is invented.

Nintendo was founded at the same time Jack the Ripper was on the loose.

We put a man on the moon before we put wheels on a suitcase.

Oreos were invented the same year the Titanic sank.

The Mongols fought the Crusaders and the Samurais at the same time.

Cleopatra lived closer to the moon landings than she did to the building of the Pyramids of Giza.

A comic strip cautioning against sexual harassment has gone up at the Ramses station of the Cairo Metro line. The strip is illustrated by the wonderful and talented Ahmed Nady, and supported by the Basma Movement as part of the #حتعمل_ايه (what would you do) movement.

I particularly love this because of how well-illustrated and well-printed it is, and the placement makes it an immediate eye-catcher, with crowds consistently gathering to read it. A great first step for a campaign. Also a win for comics in Egypt!

a list of male excuses

  • it was just a joke
  • boys will be boys
  • you’re being too emotional
  • but I’m a man, I have manly needs!
  • men are just like this
  • but [XYZ type of harassment towards women] is just male expression!
  • women actually like what I do!
  • another girl told me it was okay to treat her like shit so I’m gonna assume the same applies to you
  • but our testosterone just makes us this way!
  • you need to listen to logic. [he thinks his feelings are logic]
  • men can’t help ourselves!
  • you completely misunderstood me, let me restate the same thing but with more flowery language so it doesn’t sound as bad
  • when men’s actions contradict what they say but they act like you are obligated to take them at their word anyways

Women are under no obligation to respond politely to men who have no business speaking to them. The guilt tripping that ensues by way of using the Prophet ﷺ as an example and saying that he taught us to be polite does not apply here. Rather, according to Islamic manners and etiquettes, women are advised to be blunt and sharp with such men. Men need to get the hint, stop feeling so victimised and sorry for themselves and get on with life

Thanks for your input muslima-nadjoua I’ve been abroad quite a lot in the past two years so that’s actually a very good point to consider that I hadn’t thought of, I have one year left of uni but I don’t know where I will be settling after that.
