you ever feel like you were born with something rotten inside you and if people get close enough they’re gonna find out

Imagine being lost on the Enterprise all alone and it’s just miles and miles of corridors like this

Oh, let me tell you a story…

I was a production assistant on “Deep Space Nine”.

One day I was in a hurry, and decided to shave a half minute off my journey but zipping through a soundstage and out the other side. It was Stage Four, and held Ops, some personal quarters, Sisko’s quarters, the Cargo Bay.. and hallways.

It was lit, because we were moving there later in the afternoon. I began jogging through the corridor and stopped right in the middle, where I could see neither end of the set piece. Suddenly, I WAS THERE. I was on the station. It was a complete alternate reality feeling, almost deja-vu, a deep familiarity. I paused, and a chill ran down my spine.

But I was in a hurry, and my feet took me quickly to the end of the set, and I looked back… yep, just a lit set, all alone on the soundstage, nothing I hadn’t seen a thousand times.

And yet. I had been there. On the station. For a split second, I was no longer on Stage Four, on the Paramount lot, in the middle of Los Angeles. I was in Bajoran space, on a station in the stars. It was only a moment… but the feeling and the memory has never, ever left me.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone else experienced the same thing.

I used to work on a film set built as streets of ancient Jerusalem. Regular thunderstorms would run through and people would usually just huddle to wait under arches or roofs, and then filming would resume.

One day we - the cast and crew and all- were just standing around in the rain under a covered passageway, passing lunch and scripts and things back and forth, and there were Roman soldiers chatting in their little groups and the crew moving things about and the Jewish Character Cast laughing and talking or discussing script stuff with the people in charge, in a close huddle-

and for a minute, there it was- Roman Occupied Jerusalem.

Us, the varied mob of people, Soldiers and Locals and craftsmen, huddled waiting for a quick spring rain to pass before resuming business as usual, sharing instruction or gossip or a few bites of lunch, while inhaling the heady smell of rain hitting the dusty streets.

We were there.

It actually happened a lot on that set. Very cool places, immersive sets. It’s a stage and for just a blink even you, a worker on that stage, are transported.

learning that people want you in their lives is a skill you can develop if it does not come naturally

it feels fake but your friends miss you sometimes

the reason you've been hanging out with your closest friends fairly regularly for the past 12+ years is because you have fun together

people who don't like you that much will not stay in your life for over a decade asking to hang out and inviting you to things and texting you

It’s not just that the leaves will break down on their own (and enrich the soil while they’re at it!). During the winter, all sorts of insects use leaf litter for shelter, and they’re the first food available to larvae in early spring. Leaves also insulate the plants under them during the winter, which is important if you’re in an area prone to frost heaving.

One of the best thing you can do for native pollinators in your area is Leave the Leaves!

the thing about the "um excuse me if you're as poor as you say you are why don't you just sell all your most treasured possessions" thing that people love to trot out as some kind of "gotcha" is that they do not acknowledge how fucking soul-crushing it is to be in a situation that is already destroying your mental health and then be forced to sell one of the few things in your life that still bring you joy

the best thing about tumblr is that you can watch a show and then you come here and someone has made a gifset of it and you can put it on your blog like a sticker in a journal
