Views: Sitting with the Persistence of Memory /// I was walking around with my camera when a little kid stopped me to ask: “Hey - do you know what time is?” Excuse me? “I hear all the time from people I see that they're running out of time. I don't get it. Do you have extra time?” What the hell are you talking about, kid? “Well... how can you run out of something that was made up? What time is it anyway?” You don't know what time it is? “Maybe if I could finally get a watch.” Then he walked away. Kids are always making me melt. I hope he got the time, but then again maybe it would be better if he just accepted it's a manmade construct. A concept that never really existed to begin with. Views: The Fountain of Youth is Empty /// I took me awhile to understand why seeing it this way made me feel so lost. Is youth really wasted on the young? I always thought growing up was one of the best parts about life: add on another year, add on the laugh lines, add on the wrinkles, add on the wisdom, add on the inevitable walk down to the shallow waves of death. Losing the years never mattered much to me because I always felt I was gaining something better in return when I would reach out and journey towards whatever was in front of me. Maybe the fact that the fountain was empty was the point. Doesn’t everyone reach back in their past for something that is no longer attainable? Maybe Sophia was right and the fountain really is in your own mind, in your own talents, in the creativity you bring to your own life and the lives of people you love. I’ve loved so many people though, so why does my mind still feel so empty? Kimberly /// III. I had become lost. The Devil and God were raging inside me. Soon enough they would turn into nothing. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. I couldn’t even remember where to begin. Death seemed so much easier than living. I wondered if that made me a coward or if that was something cowards said to lie to themselves. All I knew was that nothing was ever certain. If only God knows where, then only the Devil knows how.

Everyone was dying or was dead already. I didn’t want them to go, but I could do nothing to stop the inevitability of it all so I began clinging to souls with a prayer I didn’t believe in. They always went unanswered anyways. Death has the firmest grip I’ve ever felt, but I’m tired of dying one piece at a time. I just want something to believe in something that doesn’t answer back in an echo.

2016 was a pretty fucked up year, right? The end really got to me there, what with election result and people entering and leaving my life. I felt my bones shaking under the weight of lives I could not and would not live. I felt lost and for a good bit I was unmotivated and too uninspired to continue. Some things leave a bitter taste in your mouth until you wash it down with something else to cleanse your palate. You see, there's always something coming after. So I had to find out what that was. I rediscovered it hidden within some gratitude. In the love I share with people. In the work that I do. I've been taking everything one step and one day at a time. And to be perfectly frank, that's just the way I like it. I'm back. (at Allmost Studio & Gallery)
