And so, even September has ended. I was really planning to write something during the past few weeks, but lots of negative thoughts kept wondering around so I kind of refrained myself. I started to think that what I was writing here wasn’t actually what I wanted to write. “Can I really call this a review? Do people think about buying mangas I /recommend/ after reading what I write?” …these kind of thoughts stopped me everytime I tried reviewing a series… but as you can see, here I am, trying to write something. Hoping I won’t delete everything in the end.
Anyway, I’m still very glad there are people around who kept coming here, despite everything. Even though I don’t say anything, I’m 100% aware of how many views my blog recieves daily, weekly and monthly. ♪
Anyway!!! This time, we’ll talk about Yoyoyo Kuma‘s Sabi no Yume. I think I should also thank my muse who keeps buying manga from artists I don’t know and makes me to buy them as well.
The story is unfinished and there will be a volume two (I don’t know when it will be released though), so make sure you understand it does not end the way it ends. Moving on, the plot is per se pretty brief and simple. Sabi no Yume is the story of Shindo, employee in a company that develops cyborgs intended for sex, and a Sexroid which is a cyborg, yes, but the result of the trasformation of an actual boy. An innocent child modified for the sole purpose of having sex.
We see in the first few pages how Shindo is entrusted with the care of this prototype cyborg, Toshio. At first it seems he’s very reluctant to work with the little boy and has a passive attitude towards him, but they slowly warm up to each other. But, even though he’s unwilling to get involved with the sexroid, he still teaches him words, common sense, shows him the outside world and gradually starts holding special feelings for him, though it’s not love.
As the story moves on, we’re thrown in what appears to be Toshio’s /wet/ dream: a happy life with Shindo with which ends up having sex, too. Followed, sadly, but what is his past, focused on the relationship with his uncle.
The last part shown is also a dream, but this time it’s Shindo’s which is somehow linked with the sexdroid’s one which leaves Shindo dumbfounded.
The title “Dreams of Rust”, may be related to the dreams that we witness that leads to this illusory happy ending and, at the same time, suggests that a cruel future is waiting for our main characters…
I honestly did enjoy this volume and as many have already said, but I can’t really give an honest comment about this since I don’t know how the series will end. There’s one thing, though, I really really liked. Even though this manga has its “dark moments” (numerous scenes in which Toshio’s pictured having sex and such things) I cannot deny that there are lot of cute moments.
My favourite part is absolutely the one in which Shindou teaches Toshio the world “penis”, but, due the fact he was modified, he can’t speak properly and says it wrongly. I think it’s very cute to see how hard the sexroid tries to repeat what Shindo says even though he fails adorabily.
Here’s some examples~
Well, cuteness aside, I seriously don’t know what to expect from this series. It ends in such a way that I think it’s impossible to guess what’s gonna really going to happen. One thing may be for sure: drama~~~. I really hope it’s gonna end with a happy ending, though. Let’s cross our fingers!
