He rubbed his temple, that splitting headache only getting worse by the second. Hangovers were about the worst thing God could have ever created. "I threw up in the shower this morning, and I had fortune cookies for breakfast, so, yes, I'm doing very well, in fact. Thank you.” // lin fact #666 he's a lightweight |:
“You should have probably left out the stuff about shower and the cookies if you wanted that to sound the least bit believable.” Katherine couldn’t have sounded less sympathetic to his plight if she had made a conscious effort. Though she at least kept her voice slightly down, her one concession to his plight. “I have to ask now though, did you just happen to have enough fortune cookies to constitute breakfast, or do you just keep a bunch of them around for mornings like this?”

“I get all tingly when you break into cars like that.”
“Of course you do, why wouldn’t committing a felony be some sort of turn on for you,” Katherine asked though her tone was much more joking than actually annoyed. If she was actually annoyed she probably wouldn’t have said anything at all, as she was one to quietly seethe at someone else instead of just saying that they annoyed her. “So is it just the burglary that does it for you, or do you get tingly at the thought of other crimes too?”
“I says it, and that should be enough for you tiny ass girls… by the fuckin’ Maker.” Saarah glared down at the tiny mage, clearly unamused by her attempts to lace flowers into her hair and on her horns. “I prefer gold rings and the blood of my enemies ta flowers and charms or whatever you’re wantin’ ta pretty me up with.”
“I resent that, I am not tiny, in fact I am of a perfectly normal height.” Katherine protested crossing her arms over her chest with an affronted look and continued under her breath, “You on the other hand are the one who is ridiculously oversized.” The mage shook her head then, even she knew that sometimes giving up was the only option, “Fine, continue to be unreasonable, no more flowers, I’ll let you just keep being scary and intimidating.”
Includes drug and violence tw, a mix of which muse is the criminal, if not both.
Martin quirked an eyebrow at her. Bubbly and cynical wasn’t an easy combination to pull off, but perhaps he was misreading her posture, her tone, her features. No, he was good at reading people; he had to be. Sculpture and multiple-homicide both require understanding human expression.
“Yes, thirty days and you can consider it officially difficult for anyone here to try and fire you on the spot. Honestly, we’ve had people quit plenty of times but I deliberately try to avoid firing people.” Martin answered with a patient sort of sigh, “We’re one of the most popular cafes in town; we get a lot of customers and things get really busy really quick. We’ve had employees walk out simply cause they got overwhelmed.”
Martin turned to look at Katherine again, leaning back against one of the counters. “I hope that isn’t going to put you off keeping the job.I try to hire people who can work well under stress. Can you?’
Katherine was used to dealing with people who didn’t bother looking past her affected bubbly personality. That or they couldn’t read others if they had an instruction manual, though something about the look he gave her told her this time that wasn’t the case. She wasn’t sure if that was refreshing change of pace or a just a complication, well she would see in time.
“Don’t worry I won’t run away at the first sign of a crowd or anything. I’m used working in stressful conditions,” After all it was serving coffee not sterilizing a crime scene, and one she was certain was quite harder than the other. Not to mention she still needed this job, and her lack of qualifications, couldn’t exactly put homicide as a special skill, meant it was one of the better she could get.
Yes, this she was sure she could handle, she did have ways of dealing with stress. Sure there might be an increase of carnage, but people needed their coffee, it was a sacrifice she was willing to make. “I think I’ll do just fine.”
A faint smile and a nod was really the closest Lin would come to emoting. He doubted there was ever a time where he laughed aloud, but at least this was sincere. “You know, I’m all for that, but considering you’re still a witch there’s the chance we may be found out and sued. I’m but a transient, ethereal concept. I can’t be brought to court, but you can and honestly neither of us can afford an attorney.”
That elicited a brief laugh from the Witch, probably at the thought of what the trial would be like, now that might be entertaining. Still she had to admit he was right, the idea had been more of a joke than anything really, fire wasn’t her usual method for causing trouble, no she preferred something more subtle. “Even so shouldn’t you be encouraging me to do it anyway?” Katherine tilted her head her lips curling up into a smirk, her tone teasing “Isn’t encouraging or at least not discouraging us non-ethereal concepts to make bad destructive decisions at least part of your ‘job’?”
