I think that we spend too much time making fun of Johnathan Harker for ignoring all of Count Dracula's red flags and not enough time making fun of Count Dracula for being really bad at hiding the fact that he's an immortal, bloodthirsty monster.

Zuko could feel the sweat drops glide down his back, despite feeling icy cold; they couldn't just ship him off to the South pole without any objections, right? "U-uncle..." Iroh shook his head, defeat written in his features. "I am sorry, nephew, I have tried to negotiate otherwise. I'm afraid I have no other choice. You will be married to the daughter of the Southern Water Tribe Chief."
- Katara shook her head slowly, trying to comprehend her dream- vision? "I had a really strange dream-" "I know, I had it too, I was there," Aang explained, eyes wide. "I saw the spirits, Katara. They were talking to you, and you were crying. Yue was there, holding your hands." Katara felt the hairs on her neck rise. "So it wasn't a normal dream?" Aang shook his head. Ï don't think so. What were the spirits saying that got you so upset?" Katara gulped and stared into the soft glow of the smoldering logs. Softly she recited: "Unify water and water. Bring balance. You are the key. Yue said I have my part to play."
- The ramp lowered, and Iroh and Zuko stepped off the ramp onto the snowy pier. He looked at the people clustered at the beginning of the pier; a stocky, older man, flanked by a lankier young man and a fierce looking young woman. His fiancee, no doubt. She had piercing blue eyes; for some reason they looked hauntingly familiar. Like the blue sky over ember island, he thought.

i think “video games aren’t really the violent child-corrupting threat some parents worry they are” and “certain circles of gamer culture are incredibly toxic and can lead people down dangerous/hateful ideological rabbit holes” are ideas that can absolutely coexist
Artificial violence is not actually a corrupting influence but hanging out with assholes sure is.
also, I think we could probably recognize that like… there is a difference between a game where you beat up a half demon alien cyborg or whatever, and a game partially funded by the US military that glorifies hyper-realistic military operations in a “middle east” coded setting, where everyone with brown skin is an enemy that needs to be gunned down. Like, those things are different.
