I wasn't originally sure how to tackle the lower sleeve for the bodice. I did a lot of smocking experimentation, and none of them were quite right. Then, I remembered you could do squares with pintucks, and I think I've found it!

I'm just not looking forward to having to stitch a single red bead at each of the intersections @-@

My favorite part of making a cosplay: All the details!

Queen of Hearts definitely scratches this itch. There are so many details in the costume to replicate, Trims, beading, rhinestones, embroidery, dangle chains! It's gonna be a lot of fun, if time consuming.

Originally, this bodice started as a Truly Victorian bodice pattern. But it's definitely undergone a lot of modification to do all the piecing work to create the look of an underbust corset.

Just need to remove the rest of the tear away stabilizer and I can start in on the bling.

How do you know you're crazy? When you decide to pad stitch a whole bodice lining!

Is it necessary? Nope. But I went with woven interface for the costume as an interlining, and taking this extra step just helps it fit nicely and really flow against the curves of the corset. I originally was only going to do key areas, but after pinning on my dressform, I liked the end effect so much I just ran with it.

Widdle little skull details! There's a lot of these little dudes on the costume, so I've got a lot still to print. I modified a cartoon skull print to fit the art better, then printed them in CosPLA again. Then they all got chicago screws heat set into them, so they can be installed into the costume without the need to glue!

I first painted these with gesso, which let me go back and sand while also giving a nice opaque white. I hand painted the details, refined, and then sealed with a varnish.

Now the prop is looking like something! Paint and rhinestones slowly transforming it into something royal

I also added a leather trim to the handle. Not because there's any imperfections there (it sanded super nice and smooth) but because it's -too- smooth and I was losing my grip 😅 The leather gives me something to grip more securely.

Since the goal is for Queen of Hearts to be a competition piece, it means I'm making everything. Including my prop! I modeled this in Fusion360, and printed it with interlocking pieces that slot in along a wooden dowel for durability. Printing this in Polymaker CosPLA for easy sanding, especially with all the little recessed areas. I also went back in with some resin coating for the areas I just couldn't sand.

(I may have devoted a whole chunk in one of my recent classes on how to make slotted parts).

And we have a corset! My lacing is too short for me, so ordered some longer laces. I also still have to go back and floss all the bones, but I'm having trouble deciding on a pattern.

Little more of my Leafeon! I wasn't super happy with the look of this costume, it's not a silhouette I like (Pencil skirts are my bane) and the shoes were murder on my feet. But it was a fun challenge and I was glad to be part of such an amazing group.
