Temporary Hiatus

Hello all you pretties!

First, thank you so much for being a part of my weekly pull lists and checking out what I’m reading each week. There’s nearly 200 of you, and that’s awesome! I’m even fairly certain that the majority of you are not bots! Hooray!

I’ve had a few people write to ask why I have stopped posting my weekly reads, so I wanted to touch base with everyone. In a little more than four weeks (31 days to be exact), I’m getting married! And there is still much left to do so that’s taking up a great big chunk of my time. I’m also currently working seven days a week. However, things are being moved around at work and it looks like I’ll have Thursdays off to do with as I please. So! After being on an unannounced hiatus for a month or so, I’ll be back at it next week! I’ve wanted to spruce up my weekly posts, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know! Would you like to see older things, future things, actual reviews of what I thought about an issue, ...? My ask box is open for suggestions!

Again, thank you, and I hope you’re enjoying your new comics today! Happy reading, my friends! Muah!

It's after midnight in the Eastern standard timezone, so... HAPPY NEW COMIC DAY, FRIENDS!

Saga is out. I'm getting a Lying Cat tattoo. Coincidence? Yes.

Rat Queens returns from an extended hiatus and I'm so happy! It's now back to being a monthly comic with Stjepan Sejic on board as the artist! You know what else you should read alongside this? Death Vigil.

Good time to catch up on two of Josh Williamson's amazing series as their trades are being released which usually means you have a month to read approximately ten issues. You can do it!

Anything waiting in your pull box you're super excited for this week?

Happy reading! Muah!

On a personal blog note - I have reached 150 followers! Oh my gosh! Thank you so very much to everyone who has followed me. I am absolutely delighted and thrilled and I want to awkwardly hug each and every one of you!

Don't be shy to drop me a line in my ask box thing - I think I have it open. Or you can find me on Twitter under the same handle of "ladylovescomics." Thank you again! You like me, you really like me! (I hope so, anyway!)

New comic book day is upon us, friends! Rasputin Release Day! WicDiv Wednesday! Two of my very, very favorite comics out on the same day, and it's not even my birthday! So much excitement!

Volume two of Sex Criminals is out so now is a great time to catch up!

Men of Wrath's final issue is also out and if you enjoy Jason Aaron's writing (especially Southern Bastards), make sure to pick up all five issues and have a good ol' fashioned binge-read!

Happy reading! Muah!

It's that special time of the week where we all rejoice as we head to our local comic shops to pick up the delightful tales we all enjoy.

What are you looking forward to most? I'm eager to read Peter Panzerfaust, as it's one of my favorite books of all time. Kurtis is a genius. I have "AHROOOOO!" tattooed on my arm. That's how much I love it. Two more issues to go after this one. It's going to be a very sad goodbye.

Happy reading, my friends! Muah!

Jason Aaron is currently tied for first place with Rick Remender as writer with the most books in my pull. Southern Bastards, Thor, and Star Wars versus Deadly Class, Low, and Black Science.

Can we just stop and talk about Southern Bastards for a second? I love to hate this arc. I'm sympathetic toward a man whose death I was rooting for in the first five issues. I find myself holding back a tear or two for Euless Boss.

What are you enjoying this week, friends?

Happy reading! Muah!

Saga returns from hiatus this week! New to the pull is Postal and Nameless.

I'm so overwhelmed by the greatness coming home with me this week. Hawkeye is coming to an end with this issue being the finale, part one. Sad to see it go, but I'm glad that I have at least one other Fraction book to enjoy, and it's his own.

What are you looking forward to most this week?

Happy reading, my friends! Muah!

Wednesday is upon us, my friends! Also known fondly this week as "Rasputin release day"!

The top three are my most excited-for issues this week. kellysue has become a personal hero and I will pick up anything she writes because I know it's going to be phenomenally well written. Issue one of Bitch Planet hooked in a lot of people and with good reason. Many, myself included, have adopted the "NON COMPLIANT" term in our voyage to smash the patriarchy. All hail Kelly Sue! (Also read Pretty Deadly and Captain Marvel if you're not because oh em gee.)

Riley Rossmo is another person I find myself gravitating toward in the category of "if they're involved, I'm buying it". Recently I purchased both volumes of Green Wake from him and kurtiswiebe and all I can say is - WOW! If you're a fan of Silent Hill or horror in general or just want to be freaked out and maybe cry a bit like I did, you should ask your LCS to order you volumes one and two because I promise you'll want to read the second as soon as you finish the first.

Death Vigil... Ugh, nebezial-asheri, you're killing me with this cover. You can expect a shout from me on Twitter tomorrow after I'm through with this issue, I'm sure. Speaking of Stjepan Sejic - go buy Sunstone (but not for your kid or anyone under the age of understanding consensual, BDSM-friendly relationships)! Or Generation IX. Or wait until new Rat Queens since he's going to be the artist for a bit (what I hope that means is forever).

Sex Criminals! mattfractionblog and zdarsky are quite the duo. I was honestly going to put this book on the back burner after issues six and seven because John's depression felt very similar to my own. It hit hard, and I'm one of those people that want to escape into a story, not hit head-on with my own reality. But, I've stuck with it, and I understand that those issues were necessary for the progression of the story. Plus, last issue's Licked + Divine side tale gave me a good bought of the giggles.

Black Science, volume two! An excellent time to catch up (and in my case re-read) this amazing science fiction piece from Rick Remender.

The Dying & The Dead is a new comic being placed on shelves this week. It's from Jonathan Hickman, who also writes one of my favorites, East of West.

They're Not Like Us gave a very interesting start. I'm excited to see where it goes and what stories can be told with this band of super powered misfits.

Happy reading, my friends! Muah!

Wednesday is upon us! ... And I'm really sad. This particular week's pull holds the final issue of the Thomas Alsop mini-series by Chris Miskiewicz and Palle Schmidt. It's been such a phenomenal adventure. In the few short conversations I've had with the creators (they're on Twitter and super nice!), it's hopeful that this is not the last we'll read about Alsop or the Hand of the Island. I'm expecting nothing but greatness and probably a few tears rolling down my cheeks as I dive into the final pages.

This week also has a very special edition of Rat Queens for us with the tale of Braga, the "once prince, now bastard." This is HER tale prior to joining the peaches. Another emotional comic for me to cry over this week, I'm sure. Special guest Tess Fowler provided the art for this issue. After this, for at least a couple issues (and hopefully more because I adore him), Stjepan Sejic* will be giving life to four of my favorite ladies. You can use Google and find out why Roc will no longer be a part of Rat Queens, but it was the best decision to make.

Lots and lots of other goodies are coming home with me and I'm super excited! Are we reading any of the same things? Wanna gush with me? Send me a message! I'm also on Twitter at the same handle of ladylovescomics.

Happy reading, my friends! Muah!

* Pronunciation: Stee-pan Say-itch. If you're going to talk about one of the best artists around, you can now pronounce his name correctly!

Holy last minute shopping, Batman!

Whether you or the person you're shopping for is a comic enthusiast, you're in luck! Your local comic store is open today, and probably tomorrow since it's Wednesday! OR! If you're one of those poor unfortunate souls (you're welcome for the Ursula earworm) who don't live anywhere near a shop, there's always Comixology to the rescue!

"But what the heck do I ask for / buy for someone?!" Everyone is going to tell you Marvel titles such as Thor, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, etc., as well they should, cause they're awesome! But what about that someone who doesn't want to dive into a whole universe of characters? Fear not! The comics I am recommending are all from Image and they don't exist within any other dimension except what's in their book. You'll recognize a lot of the names, but maybe you're interested in seeing what they can do when not under the thumb of Marvel and/or DC.

I love Rick Remender. And if you love his Avengers or Captain America, you'll want to most definitely check out the stories and characters that came from his mind. Black Science - I compare this a lot to Sliders (weird 90s show about alt dimension space travel) to explain the premise, but it's so much more than that. Deadly Class - A school of students who are being trained to become the world's next line of lethal assassins.

Drum Hellar - Two trades available! So if you bat your eyes and pout your lip, you could even get the second one. DH is one of those comics where I keep wondering whether or not I should even like the main character. He's an asshole. But I love his story. Not to mention the phenomenal artwork of Riley Rossmo. If I were giving out awards, I'd include this book under the category for best art.

Lazarus - Forever is one of my favorite characters out of the 40+ comics I've read this year. Her family are some of my most hated characters this year. The comic has been collected into a hardcover which consists of the first three trades and some extra goodies.

Pretty Deadly - Are you still sleeping on this? Do yourself a favor and go pick up TWO trades of this and give one to a friend who hasn't already read it so you have someone to gush over it with you when you're done.

Saga - It pretty much goes without saying how much you should be reading this. However! If you are, and somebody really loves you, or you really love that Saga fan in your life, I would highly recommend the hardcover. Full trades, extra artwork by Fiona Staples (my favorite female artist), and a full script! A side note: If you're looking for an extra piece of awesome for the Brian K. Vaughn reader in your life, I'd pick up a trade or ten of Y: The Last Man for them... or for yourself.

Sex Criminals - One of us, one of us! brimp, Brimp, BRIMP! Don't listen to anyone who says this book is about two people who can stop time when they orgasm and try to rob a bank in the process. It's so much more than that. Read it and see for yourself.

The Wicked + The Divine - WicDiv. Gillen and McKelvie are the team to read. I'm sure you've seen the tagline over and over and over on your dashboard. Every ninety years a few gods possess the bodies of teenagers and they all turn into pop / rock stars. They are loved by millions. And then the host dies two years later and the gods get to go chill from where ever they came from until the next run. ... There are, of course, exceptions.

Nailbiter - Josh Williamson is KILLING it this year! Damn right I intended that pun. It's true. Nailbiter is genius. Birthright (not included because it's not out in trade format yet but you should go pick up the singles anyway) is brilliant. If you or someone you're looking to buy for like action, suspense, and some horror, go get this one.

Southern Bastards - Jason Aaron is, hands down, my pick for writer of the year. (Williamson placed second.) If you dig on his run of Thor, I wouldn't pass on SB. Earl Tubb will give you feels you probably didn't even know existed. You'll want to walk tall and carry a big stick and stand up for the little guy.

... And those are my recommendations for last minute shopping! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you wonderful people and thank you so much for following me. Let me know if you purchase any of these for yourself and read them to full enjoyment; I love to talk about comics I'm really extra fond of, and these are it!

Happy reading, my friends! Muah!

It's that special time of the week and here are the comics coming home with me!

I'm ridiculously excited for Peter Panzerfaust and Thomas Alsop, despite them both coming to a close very soon! Adventures with Peter end at issue 25 and the crazy magical ride of Mr. Alsop ends next month. It'll be a very sad time for me, but I know both endings will be fantastic. I have faith.

Bitch Planet debuts tomorrow! You really should scoop that up if you didn't pre-order it like you should have!

For the East of West lover in all of us there's a one-shot coming out tomorrow. Part atlas, part encyclopedia, part timeline, and part apocrypha.

Southern Bastards! I really don't need to say more.

There's so much goodness coming out tomorrow! With all of this, I've been thinking about the last year and what my favorites have been. Look for an upcoming post with the ultimate list! Maybe it'll give you a gift guide for someone, or a wishlist for yourself!

Happy reading, my friends! Muah!
