————— “I—I am not,” Lexa stuttered through a half-hearted protest, clearing her throat again and straightening her spine as she fixated her expression into a look of boredom and indifference —- she was nearly positive it was unconvincing. “What does the fact that ‘it’s me’ have to do with it?” While she reveled in Clarke’s attention (who wouldn’t?), experience told her to be cautious.

Entirely unconvincing. Something that thrilled the blonde to no end, leaving her lean forward slightly in her chair; easily putting herself into the brunette’s personal space. “Well, I don’t just let ANYONE interrupt me from studying, obviously.” With her appearance at almost every party Jasper & Monty throw, it’s hard to believe she actually has a pretty strict study schedule. But she does & it’s not often for her to allow a break in concentration. A career in the medical field may not have been her first choice, but that didn’t mean she was going to be a slacker.

—————– An eyebrow arched high. “There are a couple ways,” Lexa drawled, amusement visible in her eyes at Clarke’s innocent curiosity — yet, a part of her wondered what, exactly, had spurred the question, if something more lay beneath the surface. Did Clarke wish to have children, already? While, yes, bearing offspring at such a young age was a rather common thing for her people — a long life expectancy was far from guaranteed, on the ground — she hadn’t thought the skaikru followed the same tradition. “Some couples find a benefactor, typically a family member or close friend to either party, to help them — for two men, a woman that will carry their seed and grow the child, for two women, a man that will implant his seed into one. Others simply adopt a child that has been orphaned —- there are many in need of homes and families.”

It was part curiosity, part.. something else that pushed her into asking; something she couldn’t quite put a finger on. Couldn’t explain. The question had been bugging her for quite some time now & while she had her options of people to ask, it was Lexa who she decided would be best. No need for rumors to spread around. Not when she didn’t know how the other felt about the subject, after all. On the Ark, because of the limited resources, children weren’t a problem until later in life; if at all. Council approval was required. Anyone who skipped the approval process answered for their crimes; usually by being floated. Something Clarke had always found barbaric. She listened carefully, set on asking more about the surrogate way, before the last bit caught her attention --- reeled her in without trying. “What happens to the kids who aren’t adopted?”

“Trauma bays one through four.” She gestures to the larger curtained areas, slightly separated from their regular ER bays. The blonde is following beside her and this is the first time Jordan has had an intern on her shift. They tend to be on during the day, so this is somewhat new. “I’m going to stick you with Topher on flu and stomach ailments tonight.” And by Topher she means Dr Zia, but Jordan has known him too long to call him anything else. “That should ease you into it.”

Clarke is following the woman in front of her easily, looking where she gestures & taking in everything in front of her. She might be new to this hospital, but she’s not new to being an intern. Before this, she had been under her mother; something she had demanded to leave when it came down to it, to keep her sanity. As for requesting the night shift, well.. much could be said about her sleeping patterns. “Easing me into it shouldn’t be a problem, but I will go where I’m needed.” Mostly because she didn’t know the system, not yet; wasn’t sure how it worked.

                    “raven.. don’t.”

there’s only so much the girl can handle & right now, whatever raven had to say probably wouldn’t be something she needed to know. not now. not when she felt all wound up with leftover energy from the sparring match she had with kane earlier.

                    “it can wait, okay?”
