you know how antivaxxers take for granted how much good vaccines have done because they never had to experience how bad it was before them? i think the same thing is happening with womens rights.

#i just read a book about women in the diplomatic service #and was reminded that there was a ban on married women being employed in the public service UNTIL 1966 #so if you had a job in the public service and got married you had to resign #truly insane #the book was called #wives and baggage to follow #by #rachel miller #and it was fascinating

#this is tricky because i really like my work #but probably go part time and do a PhD #and when that was done write a novel #or maybe become a vinter

The whole first paragraph is worth quoting for its snarky conclusion:

#I remember reading this for the first time #it was my very first Wimsey novel and therefore my introduction to dorothy sayers #the writing the snark the clarity of voice #all hit me like a lightening bolt #i remember going to my dad and saying oh a woman wrote this #meaning #she KNOWS something about what its like to experience the world and all the tropes of literature as a woman #and then i have never looked back #dorothy sayers #my main girl #formative book

I’ve been doing some field work with geologists this winter and I’m kind of amazed by how these dudes can pick up a handful of dirt and talk about it for an hour using terms I’ve never heard of. Like wow you see a whole universe in there that I don’t. The world is truly full of beauty and we only comprehend a fraction of it.
