Nesta deserves better. Proudly pro-Nesta. I read fanfic like it’s going out of style -

Creator Highlight #3 - @kale-theteaqueen

Welcome back to Nessian Creator Highlights!! We want to take a moment to recognize the amazing individuals in our fandom who kindly use up so much of their freetime and creative energy to share their work with us!

Today we want to highlight @kale-theteaqueen

@kale-theteaqueen is one of those rare talents who manages to capture the nuances of Nesta's inner turmoil, her angst, her trauma. Her understanding and love make for compelling narratives centered, often, around healing arcs and empowering the voices of characters who are often forgotten and sidelined in favor of their sexier male counterparts.

And of course, it's never a true highlight without talking about how wonderfully kind @kale-theteaqueen has been to other members of our community. The critics have spoken, they all agree: she's one of the nicest nessians around! If you've ever wanted to get to know her, drop her a line and say hi!

  • Lady Death and Her Kingdom: When Amren pushes Nesta too far at training, she unlocks the full potential of her power, and with it comes devastating consequences. A post-ACOWAR AU in which Lady Death sees the dead, with chaotic results.
  • To Pay A Debt: When Nesta realizes Feyre has not included her in any of their family paintings, the sting of her exclusion is sharper than she could have ever imagined. Desperate to relieve Feyre and her new family of the burden that she was, she did the only thing she could think of: run. An alternate take after ACOFAS, in which Feyre not painting Nesta gets addressed, the Inner Circle gets a little bit of a reality check, and everyone kind of learns to communicate.
  • Burning From the Inside Out: Nesta had lived with pain all her life. She thought she knew how to keep it controlled, secret, afraid to burden her family even more with her inadequacy. Then, she was thrown into the Cauldron. Now, try as she might, the stolen fire that rages inside her only makes things worse, until she can no longer maintain the stone-faced mask that had gotten her through the first two decades of her life. When her truth comes to light, how will her family perceive her weakness? And more importantly, how will it affect an already tenuous relationship with a certain Illyrian? An AU in which Nesta has secretly lived with chronic pain her whole life, only to have it exacerbated by the powers she took from the Cauldron.

Cassian telling Nesta that he can take whatever she throws at him and then two seconds later not being able to handle her saying something mildly rude about Rhys would be funny if I didn’t harbor a deep hatred for him.

there’s something about a fourteen year old Feyre hunting in the woods for her family being absolutely horrifying to the inner circle but a fourteen year old nesta forced to use her body to seduce older men so she can get a marriage alliance for her family is just a funny little story for the inner circle to have a giggle over that gives them the idea that they should have adult Nesta use her body to seduce an older man into a marriage alliance. for her “family”.

tamlin blasted rhys' dad off the face of the earth as the high lord magic was transferring and he also glamoured rhys to not see feyre in acotar, so his magic is very powerful

and nesta saw straight through his glamour as a mortal... like i'm not saying she is the most powerful bitch but i am saying that with my whole heart

I’ve recently become obsessed with the idea of an AU where Cassian was never taken in by Rhys’ mom and instead worked his way up in Illyria as a warrior and he and Nesta don’t meet until Rhys brings them to Illyria during ACOWAR and it’s just INSTANT near bloodshed and Rhys and Cassian already have a sort of heads butting relationship characterized by mutual respect but more begrudging than actually liking each other at all and Cassian has 0 reason to hide the mating bond so he just gets all possessive real quick and Feyre is freaking out and Rhys is like of fucking course and Nesta is just like HA yeah that’s gonna be a no on the mating bond to a warlord thanks and it’s all just an absolute chaotic disaster

So anyway … if anyone wants to write that … (maybe I’ll try to get something together for Nesta week but I don’t have much faith in my free time these days)

I love to torture the people so I’ve started writing this and uh … Cassian is so hot when he’s not being Rhys’ bitch boy???? Tiny sneak peak hehe

“I stomped your ass into the dirt your first day here just because I didn’t like your face, Little Prince.” And then continued to do so through a half century of training. Rhys didn’t need the reminder. “Imagine what I’ll do if you try to keep my mate from me.”

"Healing" vs. being made functional

"[Cassian] would never take that away from her: the chance to save herself" ACOSF, Chapter 67

It’s kinda nuts how in Cassian’s POV when she gets taken for the blood rite he says this:

And even if the laws had allowed it, he would never take that away from her: the chance to save herself.

And then in Nesta’s POV she’s thinking:

Cassian ... Maybe he was already on his way to save her. The bubble of hope in her chest ruptured. He couldn’t rescue her. He’d informed her himself about the laws forbidding such a thing.

Like she doesn’t want to be there! She wanted to be saved! What do you mean you wouldn’t save her even if the laws allowed it!

Rowan punched Aelin.

Rhysand twisted Feyres broken arm to force her into a bargain.

Cassian repeatedly overstepped boundaries of Nestas.

And y’all have the nerve and audacity to complain about Lucien? Get serious.

My lovely friend @melphss and I were able to commission with insanely lovely art by @jjflorentina

The artist did such an incredible job showing Elain and Lucien in a sweet embrace.

@melphss thought this quote from Elain in ACOWAR reminded her of a quote from Jane Eyre so I attached both of them. I thought it was a lovely correlation.

Elain: “It felt.. strange, like you pulled on a thread tied to a rib?”

Jane Eyre: “I have a strange feeling with regard to you. As if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly knotted to a similar string in you. And if you were to leave I'm afraid that cord of communion would snap. And I have a notion that I'd take to bleeding inwardly. As for you, you'd forget me.”

Ok I’ve seen people arguing about this and I don’t understand because it is absolutely, irrefutably canon that Nesta is the most powerful character in ACOTAR. Like I personally don’t even care if she is, it’s not what I like about her. I’m not saying this as a stan. It’s literally just a fact. Rhys says it himself when she has her nightmare. He’s the most powerful high lord and he cannot overpower her magic unless Cassian distracts her. He is afraid of it. Not to mention she controls the trove and it seems to just come a running whenever she even thinks of it to raise armies of the dead and put a bitch in their place. She Makes death swords. She yeets True Immortals and Asteri out of existence like it’s a game. She’s the only one of the 3 most powerful creatures in the series who hasn’t had to be brought back from the dead (twice…). Home girl stopped space and time and rewound death. Like …that’s Lady Death ya’ll idk what to tell you …

Stop bitching and just be glad all she wants to do is eat cake and have great tits.

"Keep reaching out your hand" was used seven times verbatim in ACOSF as a central theme between Nessian. And now, I present to you this juicy little tidbit:

And when Gwyn reached the finish line, bloody and panting and grinning so wildly her teal eyes glowed like a sunlit sea, she only extended her battered hand to Azriel. (ACOSF, Chapter 60)

(Also I'm crying because Azriel finally got to see for himself how "Gwyn's teal eyes might light up [...]" in this scene because he didn't see her reaction to the necklace 😭)

I also love this scene because he typically hides his hands from view whenever the IC pay him attention and they - to an extent - never address his trauma around it. Gwyn who likely doesn’t know what happened to him as a child just treats him the same and wants that damn handshake. Those hands aren’t scarred and should be hidden, those are the ones that saved her.
